We made it out of Raymond and onto Hwy 6 just fine. I went very slow though. It was VERY dark and a tad bit icy. Plus we had fun seeing the Christmas lights every so often when we would go by civilization! It did kind of feel like we were about to be abducted by aliens!!

We made it to Portland around 7:30ish. We met up with my girlfriend when my twins and Shania got all excited to eat at McDonald's in Oregon!!!

We also went to a 2 story Target!! You would have thought these girls had never been out of their bedrooms all their lives!!!

We went back to Battle Ground and had a wonderful New Year's all cozy at my friends 108 year old farm house! It is sooo cool!!! We slept till 11:30am on Saturday! Played around, and the girls rode quads around her property. (10 acres) Had a HUGE bon fire and got to bed late again! Then headed back home today!!

I can not believe that we still have snow and ice everywhere!!!!

Hope you & your DH enjoyed your visit with Santa's little elves! We sure did!!!

4:30am tomorrow morning is gonna STINK!!!!

First off - Welcome to Washington (almost

). Please know that I don't believe a single person on this forum would judge you for your situation...we have all had our own experiences and (I feel) that everyone here is so supportive and considerate....I think you will like it here.

I am in Eastern WA....good point about the cold and snow. Do some internet research. Okanogan County, Douglas County, Ferry County, Stevens County....particular towns: Colville, Kettle Falls are pretty good price wise...but can have lots of snow. Spokane has had quite a bit of snow fall. Wenatchee has no snow right now (I was there today) but does get snow. Eastern WA is much less expensive depending on the area you go. Methow Valley (Twisp, Winthrop, Mazama) are all very expensive areas. Leavenworth would be spendy - very touristy. Wenatchee may be on the higher side...but it a beatiful small city....center of everything. I love Spokane...but not sure of living costs. Getting into the Oroville area the prices tend to go up again because Oroville is right on the Canadian Border and a lot of Canadians come down and purchase property.

Hope some of this information helps...and, again...welcome. Oh, BTW, I am in Omak...Rare Feather Farms is just outside of Okanogan (she is only a few miles away). Good luck.

Living on this side of the Mtns....this is very true too. It greatly depends on what you want your lifestyle to be and what you can do. I used to do medical transcription from home (hated it). There are lots of nice people here, though, and all walks of life.

I have babies hatching pipping and crying and peeping all over this house !!
Two incubators going and pips all over and the older ones in the brooder pens...gonna call it a night here soon, but first...

CR: DH says to tell you that a 'wrap around veranda' is when you have a porch going all the wat around the belt....

Very true but you get to experience ALL 4 seasons unlike here in the swamp on the west. I hate this 11 1/2 months of rain. Yes I am ogginally from Eastern Ore and would love to be back on the other (east) side of the hill.

It might be very helpful to get a map of Washington State, and know for certain where you want to look for housing. The State has a number of very different climates, and areas that are more difficult to travel to and from. Sooner or later most of us have a need for services in the larger metro areas, so finding a home that is way out in the boonies can at times become time consuming and expensive to travel to and from. Also work can be difficult to get in areas that are off the beaten track.

I use maps all the time, but it can't tell you where the bad areas of a town are.
