I have lavender and coriander (cilantro) in the garden. Maybe I should plant more next spring.

If that's true, I think I'll get lots of lavender for my coop

it says basil and coriander also... hmmm... I might start mixing that stuff in with my pine shaving now... I have a friend with an herb farm. I bet I could buy some of that stuff in bulk

Really? So you could just mix that stuff in with their pine shavings to help prevent lice? It couldn't hurt in any way could it? That sounds like a good idea. I'm just filing these thoughts away for the future, so when I get the coop up and running I'll be just that much more informed.

EEEeeeek! I was hoping no one would mention those! I cannot have a conversation with my mother without her bringing that up, and she cannot step outside or even look out a window without pointing up at the sky and saying "see, see?!? They are poisoning you too . You need to stay informed and you need to do something about it and warn all your friends too."

I've got enough crap to worry about, I don't need to go searching for more! She's sent me books and videos on the subject. You can have them if I have not thrown them out already. I won't watch them. I don't want to become like her and live my life in fear of everything (radiation from Smart Meters, Comtrails, Aids, prions, Obamacare, germs, contracting leukemia from cats, terrorists bumping off scientists, food coloring.....)

I've also heard rosemary recommended. I figure it can't hurt, and the more options I have the less likely I am to strip any of my herbs to death.

My laptop has lots of problems; I think most stem from a virus and ransomware that it got about a year ago. I left the computer on overnight, and when I got up in the morning, it was spewing porn and viagra ads, thousands of pages opened, and virus warnings from software I did not own. I could not even turn the computer on without it opening the internet and piling more of this crap on. I could not open any of my own files. I called Norton as I was running Norton 360, and it could not find any problems at all when I ran a full scan in safe mode. I think their call center is in India. They wanted for me to pay $90 an hour to remotely connect to my computer and fix it!. I removed Norton, bought 3 other anti-virus, none of which could detect the problem. I brought it to a neighbor, and he was able to remove most of the malware, but he said it was so entrenched that it may not be completely cleaned. It seemed to be fine, but a few months later my mail was hacked and it was sending Viagra ads to everyone in my address book. My neighbor traced the mail to a computer in Turkey! I changed all my account passwords. I had DH take a look at the computer .... Big mistake. He works at Microsoft. He and another guy came up with the Silverlight video player. He hates any competitor products on my machine and calls them virus whores, so he removed Java, Adobe and Quicktime and several other aps. He installed Foxit so I could open all my son's homework pages. There were lots of things it could not open, so I -installsed Adobe, and have had intermitant problems since then. My DVD could not read any photo or video files, but can run Quicken and few other programs. I could not play any saved videos from my camera, and it chokes most times I try and watch videos posted on MSN. Usually it freezes in the beginning just as the commercials start to play, but sometimes it surprises me, skips the commercials and plays just fine. I can't play most of the videos posted on facebook. So I don't really know where the problem is. I installed office 2010 over the weekend, and I can now play videos that I have loaded from my camera, but I still can't play most news and TV clips.

I think I need a new laptop, but if I still have this bug hidden somewhere in some old, seldom opened files, I am afraid I may infect the new computer when I transfer the files. I once pulled all the key-covers off this one to clean out seed beads I spilled on the keyboard, and some of the key covers won't go back on, and other keys I really have to hit hard to get them to type!

Thanks for sharing! I've got lots on lavender planted around my house .... I think I will be planting more! One of my cats likes to hang out in the lavener shrubs. She always smells nice and has no fleas even though I usually only use Frontline on her about 3X per year (May, July, September).

So does he recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for anti-virus? How about Microsoft Family safety? I am using both.
What does your hubby do at Microsoft? I am Web Developer/Application Developer using Microsoft Visual Studio.

Whew!

Caught up on 10+ pages of posts! Now for what I was going to say in the first place:

My 2 EE refused to go in the coop last night, and the other girls kept hopping out of the coop every time I went out last night to check on the EE's. I was hoping they would go in so I could shut the coop door. Do you ever let your hens stay in their runs overnight, or do you always lock them up? I'm worried about predators. The run is skirted to make it difficult to tunnel under. I think becuase this was the first time in a week that the temps were above freezing (barely above freezing), they just wanted to be out! The whole lot of them .... they'd hear me open the back door, and they'd all flap out of the coop hoping I'd have more yams and bananas. The three hens were doing the roo dance, the others were just clucking for food.

It started raining hard this morning ... I'm hoping the snow will melt so I can move the tractor. Still have about 5". Of course it is supposed to snow again by Saturday and it won't dry out before then, and it won't warm up enough in the 14 day forecast to melt at all. (it gets down to 9 ... I hope the forecast in wrong!) I guess I'll just put more hay out, oh, and lavender.
