more info on dogo's:
In the 1920's the Argentine Dogo was developed in Argentina by two Argentinians, Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez and his brother Agustin. The brothers wanted an ideal companion dog that was also a good pack hunter and guardian. The breeds that were used in the development were the Great Pyrenees, Irish Wolfhound, Pointer, Great Dane, Dogue de Bordeaux, Boxer, Spanish Mastiff, Bulldog, Bull Terrier and a now extinct mastiff-type breed called the Dog of Cordoba. The result was a bullish, fearless hunter who also had great stamina. The white coat deflected the heat rather than absorb it.

How could you not love a face like this?

Except that they're bred for hog hunting, not dog fighting though, and they have been specifically bred to be VERY loyal to the family. Dogos are my favorite of all the "bully" breeds. You gotta remember, there's a lot of Great Dane in there, a breed notoriously known for its doofy, friendly temperament.

Any dog who has a history of being fought is not fought because it is human aggressive or dog aggressive, it is fought because it is LOYAL to people.

If people fought dogs that were truly more dangerous, they'd use Kangals and Akitas. But they don't, because they themselves as handlers would need to have a lot of control, and still end up in the possibility of being mauled by their own dog. Bully breeds like Pitbulls are put to fight because they'll do anything their owner asks them to.

And alot of things their owners do not ask them to...

Nice photos Russ...I love the witch hazel pom poms...they are on my list for landscaping this year.
I need to spray my fruit trees once more before the buds swell...gotta do it on a dry day....and keep forgetting...

I figure any day now we will be infested with Robins, and then, it will officially be spring in my book.
Got to be soon...the ground is just oozing worms, the Robin's favorite food !

WOW How in the heck am I suppoda keep up when ya all move so faster than I can read.
Yes Ron I agree about the sexlinks.

4312 I want to get a new coop/run made so I can start raising the RIR B and IF I do I will do my bestest to get some yer way. I do know a guy here that sells em online but not sure where.

I don't know where you guys are that ya got sun today. All we had was clouds and cold.
I got my first experience at processing birds today. The neighbor had 15 to do. We used a combination of the (traffic) cone / knife and hatchett. I was tasked with manning the hatchett. All went well but the person on the knife didn't do very good at avoiding the feathers so I was kept busy sharpening knives.

Illia, are you getting a new puppy? Did I miss this news?

Yes, we're getting a Boerboel Mastiff, imported straight from South Africa.

Wow, that's some dog! Should be a great addition to Mora Farms.

Oh, then we should be seeing puppy pictures before too long - that's always fun. Congrats.

We let the chickens out to free range today and Tyson (my roo) attacked DH twice. Well, Tyson, got his bell rung a bit and now is leaving DH alone....if Tyson keeps this up he will get a 1-way ticket to freezer camp.

So before a rooster gets sentenced to freezer camp, what steps do you take before then? This is a general question, not directed at Tyson. How does one discipline a rooster? I know a vocal correction works with my Golden Retriever or Pomeranian, but how do you let a roo knows he's crossed the line? (Sounds like the lead in to a joke, doesn't it?)

It is such a good thing my city yard only spans three house lots. That is one freakin' cute little duckling!

When we have the time, we will catch him - and sometimes this takes running him down, cornering him and then picking him up - and then we carry him around for a good hour or as long as we can. I have told my kids they are never ever to run from the roo (my kids are not little/young kids)...they are to stomp towards the roo and if he attacks, they are to kick. This may not be the right answer, but I do not want him (the roo) empowered and get a Napoleon complex and think he runs the show. When he has come at me, I have swung and thumped him with a bucket to stop the attack and then stomp at him until he backs down and is submissive.

I would love for someone else to answer this question and give me advise too...we like our little roo. He is very pretty and very good to his ladies....just not to his people. Little monster.
Here is his royal highness:

I think Tyson really hates when DH brings out treats to the ladies...These are Tyson's ladies not the DH's, so Tyson gets defensive....this is my thought...but I have no idea...maybe he is just a nasty little rooster.
