Sorry for your loss. Losing a family member to a drunk driver is very tragic. Death of an innocent is the worst result of drunk driving and no one should have to experience that grief, but please, somewhere in your grief, try to remember that while yours is the worst grief and pain there are other innocent victims and traumatized families resulting from drunk driving.
I re-live that memory everyday. Our whole family was affected by that night. We got that knock on the door in the middle of the night. Our DDs were 6 and 8 yrs old when this happened to their brother. My DH and I had a hard time for the first year after the accident. Those little girls seen their parents walk around like zombies, we were so lost in our grief. We've been trying to change the laws and make them stricter against driving drunk.....its a process. The woman that killed Matthew was 3 months pregnant. She was sentenced to 40months in prison.Thats the max amount for killing someone if you have no other driving violations-she served 26 months.
I never wanted to join MADD, but guess what, I'm a member. When I hear people getting behind the wheel even after having 1 drink it makes me sick. Its usually not the one that makes the choice to drink and drive that gets hurt its the innocent ones that pay with their lives.
