Wow lots of trees and food stuffs all around! we could setup something like this...
people who can get free fruit/veggies to can etc goes and gets them and drops at at designated place. along with any jars they have that can be used.
designated place then hauls to kitchen and cooks/processes with extra volunteers
those who can get good low cost bulk ingredients can help with needed supplies like sugar/vinegar/lemon juice/etc
we could make small groups for picking/processing/etc
Some things like plums, berries etc can be cooked and the juice frozen to jam/jelly when we have a group of volunteers and a kitchen.
and folks in eastern side too! to really get a variety of canned goods we should look for farms/orchards that we can gleen from. When I was a kid we used to goto eastern side and pick fruits/veggies from fields that did not use sprays/chemicals. Cherries that were too ripe to sell to markets could be picked and canned/jammed next day. etc etc etc
If anyone really wants to do this please let me know. If we can get this going we can can several hundred quarts of food to divide up for the year.
I have a 1940-50 cider press and any apples would be welcome. (the stuff that can't be eaten/juiced can be mushed and composted or fed to anyone with critters who can eat it. (pigs horses??)
Maybe we can get a food grade barrel full of cider?
