All ya needs is an old cooler box with a drain plug, a big bag of coffee grounds, a fine wire mesh on the bottom to keep the worms from drowning in coffee and lots of kitchen scraps.
I'll give you the worm starts.

Old cooler.... check ...would a 55gallon rain barrel work if I left the spigot open? only coolers I have are rather small.

To bed at 3 a.m., up again at 5:45 .... When am I going to admit I am not in college anymore? I had sold some personalized marble photo coasters to someone, terrible quality, low res photos took a lot of editing; by the time I finished editing I forgot to add the names of all the dogs in the photos, so made the coasters without names and had to re-do them all! "red eye repair" does not work on glowing yellow animal eyes, so I had to put in real-looking eyes pixel by pixel for 5 dogs, and make a file that only prints to twice thumb-nail size look good at 4"x4". Gluing, sanding, finishing was another 4 hrs. Feel like crud today.

Cheryl, your coop looks awesome! I have no woodworking talent ... maybe if I had a real saw instead of a steak-knife that I used this weekend to cut down doors on wooden coop so they could close. I should have used the table saw the handyman left here, but that thing has a plug in it ,and I have not used a table saw since I was a teen (I built a goat milking stand with a friend all from scrap wood ... looks darn good too, I still have a photo to show myself that I once had talent. It had a little feedbox in front and something to lock the goats head in place.)

I did the up till 3am (or 4, I never did look at a clock after about 2:30...) while I was visiting my mother. Then, we had to get up at 7am with my nephews (she watches them during the day while my sister works)! Not only that, but that was the morning I had to drive home! Home, of course, is over 400 miles away from my mother's house and a roughly 7.5 hour drive...very boring when doing it solo!

Today is going good so far...I made "Texas Turtle" flavored coffee for breakfast. We're out of cream, so I used some of the left over whipped cream I made last night (Heavy cream, Splenda, & a dash of Pure Vanilla..), it turned out to be an excellent cup of coffee! The chocolate cake turned out pretty good last night, held up and slid right out of the pan even! It's more of a bread...but I cut nice think slices and topped it with fresh cream for dessert last night. Today, a slice went with the SO in his lunch sans whipped cream along with the leftover pizza we had for dinner. Or rather, the topping off the pizza we had for dinner, lol.

Snow and rain in the forecast for today...I'm betting I don't get much coop building done, but I do need to go to the store, which just so happens to share a parking lot with Home Depot! Guess I'll "have" to stop in and see if they have any OSB in the cull bin.

Would left over screen door material work for the mesh? Ive got a few old coolers with drains sitting out in the shed. Thats really all thats needed? simple as that? I'm assuming the coffee grounds would be used? Would you leave the drain unplugged, to let excess water out?

You got it! Screen door screen is perfect.
I would toss in something more rigid on the bottom to create a tilt and a 1 to 2 inch space.
Years ago, I used the design from Seattle tilth...too big and leaks.
I also bought the black worm compost boxes...too much work & too small.
My cooler is great, especially in the winter. Keeps my worms warm & happy.
It is a big cooler. One of those 4 footers. Thus the watermelon.

metal is great as long as you have a layer of insulation and vapor barrier and then OSB or some inner paneling, cuz the metal gets frosty cold and the humidity in the chicken coop goes way up with bird's breathing and body moisture, and POOP, and it all condenses and freezes to the inside of the metal roof.
And then when the sun hits it the frost rains down, and in the summer it is so unbaribly hot it would cook the birds (ie: solar oven)
