Not right now. I took two dozen to work with me yesterday (not just Orloff, whoever was laying) and the rest all in the fridge.

If you'll be at the show next month I can certainly bring you some at that time...I will need at least one fertility tester anyway.

Broodytood, I don't know if you already have a coop or not, but one word of advice. Build it MUCH bigger than you think you will need! The Orps are REALLY big birds! They say to give each Large Fowl bird at least 3 sq ft inside, I'd say the super big breeds like the English Orps, Large Cochins need at least 4 if not 5 sq ft per bird! Oh, and I agree with Zgoatlady, for the younger kids, it might be good to get a couple of bantams for them to work with. When doing showmanship, they will have to be able to handle the birds easily, including flipping them upside down to show the judge the keel bone, fanning the wings and showing the different feathers, etc. Sometimes the big birds are just too hard to handle for the little kids. And have each child work with at least two birds, incase their number one bird decides to molt before a show, it's a good idea to have a back up bird for each of them. At our fair, each child has to use one of the birds that they have entered for Showmanship, so they can't share them for showmanship. Just some tidbits for thinking ahead.

Chickielady, I am so anxious for all my goodies on Sunday!!! I bought my Kefir jars yesterday and they are ready to go! Do you want to get strawberry starts Sunday or do you want to wait until the show in March? Either way is fine with me just let me know!

I am sitting here nursing an owie. I was working so hard outside, doing a couple fix ups on a couple of coops, and I was drilling away and the drill somehow jumped off the screw and landed hard right at the bootm of left thumb nail. It's all bloody and throbbing. Hope I don't lose the nail! Grrrr........so I packed it all up for the day and am going to have a cup of tea.

OOOoh, owie.
The last time I did that to my pinkie it took 6 months for a new nail to grow out.

Did you stick ya finger in some ice yet? It'll numb it up a bit. Get those tiny ice packs ready for tonight, you might need it.

Holy Cow on the thumb..I did that very same thing last fall, with a phillips tip on and it went all the way through the corner of my thumb nail clean out the other side.
Hurt like appplasauce so bad I also fell off the roof.
I was screwing in sharp flat headed screws through flashing, so I was leaning HARD to get the self tapping screw to bite through the metal...man oh man did it hurt..ice it !!
Straw berry starts will be good any time you can dig them..sounds like you will not be wanting to do any work for a while !

Pictures:
I walked all the way to the gate, it is pretty far away, with no jacket so I was frizzin..and the camera was out of battery juice !!!!!

So I scrubbed on them and reloaded and managed one pic of the iron cut out CR did for me yesterday...
remember, it will get rusty and look so cool!!
DH mounted the rooster tilted back too far for my tastes and the bird looks as if he is falling over backwards, but he said that is the only way he could bolt it to the gate center piece..also some shots of my insanity, the sportsman and it is warm and growing plant starts on top.

there are several 2nd generation OEs breed back to the Blue Ameraucana Cock
See the plant pots on top?
They have a tube grow light over the top of them, and on sunnier days they go out in the cold frame, which gets warm in the sun.

Oh, and Tamara:;;;; Get some splenda for your girls to have their smoothies, and fruit.
If they are having smoothies everyday which is super healthy, but not great if they are loading sugar into it.
Splenda is nice stuff...does not set off the blood sugar levels.

I am so ahead of you all in terms of growing plants.

After that batch of 220 seeds sprouted up, we kinda went wild from there. I blame the fact that we realized we didn't have any white, green, purple, or crazy colored tomatoes. Soooo. . . . We got 12 more varieties, plus more melons, squash, beans, peppers, etc. Once they arrived, we planted a lot more.

I'm gonna have plants growing from my fingers pretty soon.

I also have Ameraucanas (real ones, not Easter Egger mutts) - They're larger than any hatchery production hen, very quiet and docile, do go broody at least once a year, have good production of medium to large bright blue eggs, and are very hardy for the PNW area.

I have Araucanas as well, which are super layers, friendly birds, lay large blue eggs, and are super good moms and very broody. They're even hardier than Ameraucanas, but smaller. They're the size of a production laying hen you get from feedstores/hatcheries. They're also the more original blue egg laying bird from Chile. They have no tail, beautiful curling feathers coming from each side of their faces, and come in some beautiful colors.

I'm not within 2 hours of you but I do meet up. I also have Olive Eggers, which are a cross of Marans and Araucana. They're very big, lay big, dark, olive green eggs, and have the good traits of both breeds combined.

Wish I lived closer I'll take that Blue Ameraucana hen.

I LOVE the sign!!!! One day when I have my little log cabin I soooooooo totally want one!!!! I can't put a gate up here where we are now. CR- You do GREAT work! You should make another and list it on auction in the Buy/Sell/Trade section!!!! CL, you'll have to take a pic when it gets all rusty.

CL: re the Kefir, yes, I used splenda for years when I did South Beach diet and still have some, but I have tried to switch over to Stevia for the most part. I'm hoping just adding the frozen fruit to it will be enough to sweeten it to their liking. If not, I will try and convice them to use local honey first. The girls are excited to make it! I'm only on page 24 of the other thread, but I'm anxious to try some of the recipes beside the smoothies!
