It's not new to me in terms of what I know of it, how to control it, etc - It's new to me in terms of family members having it though. There are actually a couple things that can really help it, but one big, important one, is a raw diet. (uncooked greens, nuts, seeds, etc) - Really controls levels and allows the body to produce insulin again. We cannot possibly afford to eat like that yet, but I'm sure our garden will offer us all we need once it starts.

Have you or your mom tried OKRA?
If eaten before meals. 3 to 4 spears at the begining of the meal can actually help the body manage insulin levels.
Doesn't hurt to try and I've got some yummy recipies for it. Cook up a jar and do it for a week. May even reverse the effects.
I know that early stages of D can be reversed with proper diet and moderate levels of excercise.
Don't give in to D just yet.

I agree with you on the Stevia - I had high hopes for it, but to me it is sour and has an odd taste. Fine on citrus, but nothing else. I find the same to be true for Splenda. I'd rather have no sweetener than either of those. I have a big bag of Splenda in my pantry that I bought at Costco a few years back. I think I should trash it.

The almond flour sounds yum! I've never had tapioca flour, but I used to love making and eating tapioca pudding. It has been about 5 years since I made any ... when I'm in Issaquah tomorrow, I'll have to stop at PCC for some large pearl tapioca... (What is tapioca anyways? when the kids ask I tell them "frog eggs, though I am thinking it must be some sort of root.)

Major bummer! I am sorry that your duckies may have cooked. I would still try and see what happens. Maybe it wasn't long enough to heat them all the way up.

ALL THE WAY UP???

I don't think that they heated all the way up in just 2 hours. So here's hopping that they will be okay.

Tapioca is a root of a tree.
It grows like crazy around the equatoral regions. Thus, most of the tapioca comes from Thailand.
The big ones take longer to cook but are yummier. Taiwanese use them for "BUBBLE TEA". :droo
I make mango bubble tea with them.
Frozen mangoes, blended with milk and some sugar, then add the bug "pearls".
You must soak the pearls in syrup for a while first to make it taste even better.
Too bad we can't share "foods" at the fair.
I could bring some of that too.

OMG...

One is not so good. Looks like a dud waiting to explode in my bator. Has a"blood ring" 3/4 of the way around the top.

That is why I don't think that I could live in one of those 55 communities. I would always be pushing some kind of limit.

I suspect they don't allow chickens either.
