And so the adventure begins... DH, his buddy and I took a trip to Home Depot today to get our first load of materials for the coop!

I have printed out plans - I thought to make things easier for the guys AND myself, but of course now they are essentially saying "We don't need no stinking plans" and are commencing to build it how they want, with basic specifications from me.

Since I plan on 6 hens, I was thinking 4X8 hen house raised 2 1/2 feet off the ground, enclosed in an 8X10 covered pen. My husband decided to go 8X12 which is fine. They plan to cover it with a peaked roof, but now my husband is asking me how tall the actual hen house should be from floor to the top, (not including the peaked roof section). I guessed 3 1/2 feet should be tall enough, but he's battling me on that figure. I'll have to look up in some other plans so we have it in black and white, which I thought I was doing when I printed out plans he's decided to ignore!

Let me take a moment to remind myself how fortunate I am that I have a husband who indulges my whims and is willing to work so hard for me, and not to focus on past experiences where home projects become fodder for ridiculous squabbles.

Work for today is finished, but they did set out cement blocks to raise the pen off the ground and I have a measured out footprint of stakes and string, so I can visualize it more clearly. On Monday they plan to set up the framework. DH isn't sure it's big enough now... We'll see - wish us city folk some luck!

I am completely inept when it comes to WA geography...OR girl that got transplanted here against her will, lol. But, I "think" Colville is kinda near me in Spokane, within 100 miles or so.

That's the problem with accepting help; you lose control. I'm already having that issue with Mr. Hallerlake, and we haven't actually done much of anything.

Hope everyone had a fantastic day! We had a BEAUTIFUL drive down to Tacoma to pick up Serama eggs from Jen which she packed so beautifully! I was sad we didn't get to see each other but maybe next time! Than we carried on over the Narrows Bridge (in some very STRONG winds I might add!) to find Lyn/Cowgirlgrace's place and picked up 3 BLRW and 3 Barnvelder chickies! It was so nice to meet Lyn and check out her neat chicken set up! I loved the little shed the chicks were in! So cute! And cute puppies too! AND we met another BYC'er while we were there, her name was Christie! I'm not gonna guess at how to spell her username. I'd know it if I saw it though! Something that start's with a W and has some part of Christie in it!

Then the girls were very excited to take the ferry ride back from Bremerton which we did, although that was rather windy as well. Such a beautiful day today and we have some amazing scenary in this state! All in all it was a great day! I have the little chickies all set up and I am going to wait another day or two to fire up the incubator again, but this time I will have it PACKED!!! Our birds are really laying up a storm! I think this week we got around 4 dozen eggs or more! And I have 24 of my own + 6 serama eggs ready to go in the bator! Hope I can squeeze them all in!

We are off to have dinner with friends this evening. Looking forward to seeing Chickielady in the AM! Have a great night everyone!

So...I am the thread killer this time ?
I finally get here and every one is gone ???
I wanted to tell BlueDucklings, I bought some way cool LONG zig zags of tapioca at a Chinese Market about 6 mo ago and it has NO directions, and they are multi-colored and hard as a rock (dried) just wondered how they are cooked/used in Oriental dishes.
Cannot find them now..
The other thing I LOVE is Nori, good dried sea lettuce.
Not the sushi kind...and seawees soup.
I buy the instant kind also, it has no noodles, but a packet of dried veggies and seaweed.
I add shrimp and sometimes scrambled egg, or make egg foo young to float in it.
SO yummy and good for you.
One thing that illudes me is a good recipe for fried rice..I have multitudes of Chinese Cook books and they all say just a Tablespoon of oil, but my oil is soaked up in the cold rice and all just gets sticky, never the nice rice we get at Chinese food Restaurants.
I thought maybe I am using the wrong kind of rice..I was using regular white rice.
I have all sorts of rice..but cannot make fried rice that has the grains not stick together !!

Crazy chicken Farmer in downtown Seattle !!
I also have a gob of vegie seeds to bring and share, I have planted/saved the ones I want..if I remember to bring them.
OK< I am out of here and have to go close coops..I will post a few pics for CR in a minute, and now my egg eater/buyers are here C-ya!
