Fried rice Hmmmmm
First, you need left over rice from the refer. Fresh rice is sticky.
First, cook up your ingredients....scrambled eggs, chicken, peas & carrots.
wash out the wok. It has to be clean.
Temper. ie, heat the wok then add the oil. (1 tbsp of olive oil, half tbsp of sesame oil)
This creates a "repellent of sorts. (Use the non stick wok if you have one.)
Now add your cold rice.
Add some tamari sauce. (soy sauce has wheat), and some salt. Remember, to balance the salt, you'll need equal parts of sugar.

When it looks good & ready, add your ingredients that you've already cooked.
Give it all a good stir / toss.
then add a sprinkle of black or white pepper and some very finely chopped green onions.
YUM.
I actually prefer the spanish version.
It is easier.
Heat pan, add oil, add raw short grain rice.
Wait for the rice to brown, then add chopped onions.
Add mushrooms salt & pepper.
and just about what ever else you want.
Now put the whole thing into a rice cooker and add equal parts of water.
Sprinkle lots of paparika or add saffron or tumeric.
Add lots of clams and a lump of butter.
Cover the whole thing and leave it to cook.
Then go to BYU site and chat away.
Dinner is ready when you are all caught up with the previous pages.

Oh, almost forgot the zig zag twang.
It is a jelly.
Just boil the heck out of it...it'll grow a bit.
When it softens, rinse it is cold water & put it in a dessert drink of
1/2 cup coconut milk, tad of vanilla cooked with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, when this cools, blend with a cup or more of ice.
Add your zig zag twang and chow down.
Some folks add canned fruit or sweet red beans to it, like lee chees, but it is pretty good as it.
If you like, you can order them from vietnamnese restaurants as well.
As for the miso soup, I like them too. Probiotics!
Just chop up some soft tofu and green onions and a tad of nori (seaweed)
Take a spoon of miso paste & add boiling water to it & just stir the heck out of it.
Add the tofu, chives & nori. If you like you can add some shaved dried fish (beneto).
I add some noodles to that sometimes for lunch.
It is quite simple.
DS likes it too. We don't eat meat, so this works.

I gotta get a rice cooker. I make the spanish rice in a pan and the rice cooker sounds soooo much easier. And if I get to BYC while I wait, BONUS!
Has anyone ever had nopales. I've become addicted to the stuff. I cook it with Pico De Gayo and then put some over spanish rice and whole beans in a flour or whole made corn tortilla. Darn, now I'm hungry!

Costco has rice cookers for cheap.
Sometimes I look out for used ones for my girlfriends.
I like to buy the Japanese brands like National or Toshiba.
I usually end up paing about $5 for them.

We eat a lot of ethnic food. Punjabi, mexican, mongolian which all include rice of one kind or another. I since my nopales addiction started, I cook about 4 dry cups per day sometimes. I have 6 kids and think it wold save me a bunch of time to just get a cooker. Have you seen one that will do that big of a batch?

I am finally.....and I mean FINALLY....being able to slow down, sit down and catch up on our thread. It will take awhile....but I have a couple of bottles of wine...I should be good.

I am down 1 DH and 2 kids this weekend. Oldest DS is competeing at the Tacoma Dome in the State wrestling playoffs. DH went to go watch and is now spending time with HIS brother. DD is in Yakima visiting her 5 yo cousin. I tried to get rid of #3, but he hauled a friend home. Well, I bought them a gallon of ice cream, BK burgers, and now they are in the basement playing x-box all night.....whew. I am set to watch chick-flicks, drink wine and catch up on BYC....About TIME!!!!!

WHEW, a moment for ME.

and I am sooo happy I do not have to sit o my patio next to my $1200 koi pond, and listen to my neighbor's kids getting spanked and screamed at, or their love making, or their toilets flushing (and other potty noises) Seriously, their home, and all the windows open, was exactly 4 feet away from our backyard patio.
Why?
Cus their modular was installed in sidesways, so their back slider was smack at our backyard, the only way they could fit a home on the pie shaped parcel.
I left.
Even more wonderful was their collection of chihuahuas..they decided a day care and chihuahua farm was for them.
The yappy dogs would run up and down the aforementioned fence. No amount of pleading would keep this 'easement' space blocked off for our privacy..they had kids screaming & fighting, dog yapping & snarling at us while we sat on on patio.
They were entirely rude & unfair.
They went out of their way to go up & down the fence peeking and screaming kids , throwing rocks in our koi pond, through windows, and they insisted it was not them that through the rocks...

So much for my newly constructed art studio.

It was rude for them to expect us to just tolerate their noise and chicld care business, or their dog business.
For a while they had 8 or 10 chihuahuas and up to 16 toddlers in the yard there, 4 feet away.
The woman stayed in the house, and the kids would fight, over toys, dogs crying snapping & biting, kids tormenting dogs, garbage everywhere...crying kids, did I mention toddlers beating up 1 yr olds ?
Kids falling off the swing set, did I mention kids crying ?
Kids in pain ?
I cannot handle it.

And I could do nothing about it, and I did not want to be there anyway, why waste the last best years of my life having to put up with that applesauce?

HEY!!!!! I want to be included in the cranky group. I am a cranky wife. Cranky mom. Cranky co=worker. Hmmm, what else can I think of? I am just PLAIN crazy...yep, that's me. Include me in.

I can feel for you. I am so sorry you had to deal with this. I agree with you 100%....why put up with this. A very good friend of mine has a neighbor, who BBQs in the nude. He has a Pie shaped property and complains (constantly) because their fence, or a tree, or a bush, or the hot tub (etc) is blocking his "view". Mind you, the pointy part of his property is where the "view" is and the "view" is not that great (as compared toi the friend's)...his is mostly hill side. And YES, they will be on their back porch trying to relax, nice glass of wine, hot tubbing, and he will come out in the nude and BBQ.

Hmmm.... wonder how I can bribe Mr.CL to drive to Bonney Lake & not tell the Mighty Navigator until they got here!! SURPRISE!!
