I use whatever I have on hand, right now some have straw and some have alfalfa.

I built my feeders and they are mounted to a flat surface inside the the barn. They hold 8 coffee cans of feed.

In the freezing months I hang my water inside, I am using 3 water nipples on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket with a 250 watts tank heater. In the warner months the water is outside, I use a 5 gallon bucket some PVC pipe and water nipples ever so often. I have this type of watering setup for my big outside brooder also.

If any of you live in the Kirkland area and are social people you might have met my great aunt. I know many people here on the east side of the mountains knew her and i think she made many more friends over there in the city. She loved to knit. That is my last memory of her. I saw her last summer, I could of saw her more recently. But i didn't want to have an image of someone in and out of conscienceness hooked up to many tubes. I remember i had an similar opportunity a few years ago to meet my mom's grandma (my great grandma) but i had a fuzzy old memory of here and didn't want a newer memory of her to be like that. Maybe its a fear of death, but i like to think ending on a happy memory is a good thing too.

Alice Curtis (Bromfield)
If you have met her within your circle of friends or at church here is the link to information and her obituary (for the seattle area, its posted in many sunday newspapers)

I am stuck back at WSU an am unable to attend, when home this weekend I saw how hard this was on my grandma. I'll do my best to get good grades and send more cards to her to try and cheer her up more often. I am the grandkid she see's the most of (since we live next door and everyone is over 150 mi away)

If you know friends that might know her, let them know. The chance to say goodbye is better than always regretting.

FREEZE !!!!! We are at a wonderful -1. Oh never mind that is on the C scale. Ok so we are at 31. Well I guess that actually is just under freezing. looks like I may have beet Rainwolf out for the night owl award tonight. But where is JB? Isn't she suppoda cover the night shift. The little nasties probably got ahold of her by the fingers or chewed the cord off her computer so she has to pay attention to them instead of where she is suppoda be...... HERE ON BYC !!!!!

It's snowing here in the "swamp" too. Doubt we will get six inches though.
Anybody with a homemade bator use a reptitemp thermostat?
I'm also curious about the brinsea spot check thermometer. I ordered one that should be here today.

We had about 1-1/2 to 2 feet accumulated on the ground.

This is our second winter here. Last year was measly with the snow. It rained more than anything. The year before that, there was record snow that paralyzed the PNW.

I guess what I am saying is that I have no idea what the usual is!
