That is a great idea. I read somewhere that rcks do hold heat longer that just air. It will just be more crud to clean after the hatch.
Just for fun. Maybe you can fill easter eggs with rocks or sand, and stagger it around the bator.
It might be better if just in case the power goes out, cos the easter eggs can spread the heat.
It'll be a good kids project. Doesn't hurt.
If you don't have a turner, water bottles filled with 110* water also helps hold the heat in without disturbing the incubator.
I tried the water bottles in my home made hatcher, and put little rocks in the water troth.
Temp is steady so far & I am going to put my duckie egg in it next week.
I am using a fish tank heater hooked on to a 45 W light bulb and a 6 inch fan to provide the heat.

Hope the thing holds up. Lock down is next week.

I was hoping to get to Illias some time this week as my kids are on break, but the weather is just not cooperating. I'll have to see what weekend she has a day available (with no snow). Maybe I can pick up your roo for you and leave him here until you can get him. I'm just off I-90 in North Bend, so that should be a bit easier for you to come get him. I need some blue eggers. Everyone fights for the blue eggs.

That would be me. I guess the snow got lost on it's way to Kitsap.

Oh well, okay then. Thanks for owning up. Hope you get yours soon!

I live on top of a hill in Chehalis and we got dumped on over night. But when I drove to town today, 2 miles down the hill there was maybe an inch! Go figure.

Its the same here. we got 5 inches in the night but all the other towns didnt get as much.

Does any one know if hatchery cochins have the same temperment is the same as breeders?

OK lets see if I can manage to cover a bunch of things in one post.
The adult Eagle is still there but the young is gone. I have no concerns about them eying our girlz. They would need to be packin some tools to get in to the runs.

Yes I have heard of people putting computer fans But from what I know most of then don't run on 110V so you need a power supply with the correct output. I have some that are 110v so they just plug in with the bator. I know you can buy these fans for less than the price of a bator fan. Ya might try Radioshack.

For heat sinks in the bator you can use things like bottles of water and it will help keep the temp stable and also hold the temp longer in the event of power outage.

If you have an old pc and want to take the fan out just look at what it requires for power. Most likely DC not AC so then ya just look around for that old cell phone charger that has the same output. It is much easier to do than I can make it sound.
