Yeah its snowing here too. I am NOT happy about it. It looks like someone has dusted the area with a giant powdered suger shaker.

Been snowing here for about an hour now. Just got done bringing water out to all the different pens. I've given up on defrosting the waterers. Usually I bring out a hot teapot, try and melt enough of the frozen that I can leave a bit of water on top. But no chance of doing that today. I brought out new bowls of water to each coop. Why is it some birds insist on stepping into their bowls of water, there by tipping them over? Ah well. I figure it should be easier to get the brick of ice out of each of them and start over when I go out a bit later.

Cowgirlgrace, so sorry about the power going out. That's my biggest fear after having the brooder lamp go out on me last year in the middle of the night and losing about 18 chicks. That was just about a year ago now. I have learned to always use 2 brooder lamps from that and it's a good thing I did. Last night I went to check on the chicks and one of the lamps had gone out!!! Luckily I had the 2nd one which is a little higher so not as warm, but they were huddled under it nicely. And it was the same stupid GFI thingy tripping and going off, the bulb was fine. That line has all our outdoor coops on it via extension cords, so I have now put all brooder lamps OFF that line!

I was the indulgent mom I guess. My one and only girl would start getting homesick every time she tried to go to a sleepover and end up calling us around midnight. Her Dad would rush over to rescue her. Even when she tried to stay overnight at my parents house she would want to come home. When she was about 7 she apologized to my mother for it, saying "Don't worry Grandma, one of these days I'll outgrow it." And as an early teen she did. She eventually blossomed into an independent, confident and capable girl who handles challenges very effectively, so I know my indulgence didn't damage her too much.

Now she's happily spending her days and nights across the state from us at WSU. She still texts me at least once a day though so I don't worry. We all handle our situations as best we know how and hope for the best!

And no sign of our broody Silkie's egg hatching.

Yesterday was the official hatch day. I haven't lifted up her hiney yet to check, leaving her in peace. But I might just have to peek under her later and see.

Fortunately, I can't hear the chickens from my bedroom. I don't do mornings, either. If I could just convince the dog to stop whining outside the bedroom door, it would be perfect.

I don't know why we do these things to ourselves. Mornings start out with one Pomeranian lounging on the bed between DH and I, a Golden at the side, happily wagging his tail, wriggling his whole body with a big smile on his face and a cat that trills at me until he gets impatient and just starts jumping back and forth over my head so I'll get up and serve breakfast. So within a couple of months we'll be adding the coop below the bedroom deck and who knows what kind of noises will be coming out of there? It's twisted to keep adding to the family when I already feel momentary annoyance at them each morning. And yet it still seems to happen... Thank goodness for city rules (only 5 licensed animals per household) and property limitations.

BRRR!!! It's warmed up to 14 degrees and the sun is out! At least the wind quit blowing...that was ridiculous! I'm getting bundled up and going to out to let all of the chickens in their runs (except the Houdan bantams).....and I'll see if I can get some new pictures of everyone today (updated). My poor LS roo got some more nasty frostbite on his comb. I told DH last night that we'll need to start building covers (with clear, plastic roofing) on my runs this summer....he is not thrilled!

It's hard to tell but we got some MAJOR drifts! I went ahead and locked everyone in again tonight and spread a fresh bale of straw for the waterfowl---even the Muscovies were in their shelters last night--but the stupid geese were just sitting there in the snow!

It's supposed to be cold tonight but the worst tomorrow night with -15 or so!

We just took the entire gang (kids) out to Rancho Chicos...now relaxing and trying to catch up on 2 days worth of BYC. I locked my pop up door last night and I did again tonight....that clear sky is making it colder than cold. Everyone is doing good here. Thanks to you and CL...I think I now know how to control the Cocci....I won't let it take any more of my girls.

RFF, I need to make arrangements to get that netting from you. I do want to buy it from you. I did PM you, but I just don't trust the PM system as it does not always seem to work. My only day off this week is Sunday, I am off around 4 tomorrow (Saturday) but I am meeting a friend at the local winery and we are having a glass of wine. Monday through Friday it would be around 6, then back to Saturday and off around 4. If you don't mind waiting a week, I could get it from you next weekend or we could do this Sunday afternoon.

That's fine. It doesn't eat so it's not bothering anything.

I work at the juvenile department (behind the courthouse), Monday-Thursday 8am to 5pm. So you could always pick it up from me at work, too....

I'm allergic to animal hair. The only way I can live with my loved ones' animals is to ban them from the master bedroom. I must have a hairless place to rest my head.

Mr. Hallerlake got up too late to go to Port Townsend today. We'll go get half price tickets to the flower and garden show this afternoon instead. Half price half day tickets are a great idea. We could take a bus and avoid parking, too, but Mr. H dislikes taking the bus.
