So here I am at work at the wine shop, working a Private Wine Tasting Party and until folks start buying their wine and checking out, I'm just innocently reading the forum, trying to keep up with you guys when all of a sudden, the next thing I know, I'm on the Brinsea site with a credit card in my hand! Earlier Hallerlake had reminded us that they have a code for 10% discount and with all the incubator chat today it looks like I got caught up in all the excitement. I just purchased the Eco 20 and the turner that goes with it. Yikes. What have I done?

I guess I'd better own up to it - I'm too old to blame it on peer pressure anymore. Next thing you know I'll be buying eggs to put in 'em!

Alrighty, I have returned from a long trip to Seattle. Didn't go by cowgirlgrace's though, but I hope to next weekend. We finally got our second and last puppy, she's home safe and happy now. Now is when I REALLY hope the Parvo doesn't affect her. . . It hasn't affected any of our other dogs though, and incubation is only 5 days I believe.

My biggest excitement on the trip, honestly, was the fact that I actually found a place selling Heirloom Tomatoes - Out of season, too!

So, although they were an expensive $5/lb, I bought several. A gorgeous pink Brandywine, a Cherokee Purple, a Green Zebra, and a yellow one I've yet to put a name on, but I'm thinking by the looks and taste, it is a yellow Brandywine. Though since true heirloom tomatoes have a short shelf life, making most of the tomatoes available overripe, I tried getting the best I could. And for those curious, the tomatoes were grown in Mexico, go figure. Honestly, why can't people try growing tomatoes LOCALLY in greenhouses?

I know I will be. . . .

Anyway, just for fun, my thoughts on the tomatoes.

The Cherokee Purple - Oh my!! Amazing! Lovely texture, very rich, earthy tones with a serious smoky flavor. Just amazing! And the inside of the gorgeous purple tomato truly looked like a steak - hints of deep fleshy pink with mostly deep reddish brown throughout the tomato.

The Green Zebra - Wow, I've never had a green tomato yet, and this one was out of this world. Its flesh was kinda weird, but the juice. . . Tasted exactly like lime juice with a hint of sugar. It was so unique, and excellent to put in salads or salsa! We actually don't have this one in our astounding collection of 37 tomato varieties, but it would be interesting to try out growing some time in the future.

The Yellow one
- Overripe. The flesh was really mealy, but the juice tasted exactly like a store-bought grape/cherry tomato. Very full and "tomato" flavored with a hint of sweetness.

The pink Brandywine - That big fella was my entire lunch.

Huge, gorgeous tomato, whom now proves that tomatoes really can come in a true pink color, and boy it was good. Had a traditional Brandywine "tomato" flavor. Brandywines are the only heirloom I've tried before.

Though the tomatoes were very expensive, they were completely worth the cost, and WAAY better than any average roma or beefstake tomato you'd buy at the store.

Well, I'm off to bed. Have lots to do tomorrow. The greenhouse to start building (the huge one, not the broken one) as well as a live trap to finally set for our darn bobcat, and, sigh, our washing machine to get fixed.

Glad you made it back safely with puppy and tomatoes in tow. How is puppy 1 doing? And when do we get to see puppy pics? Get some rest - I know it's been a long day for you!
