Haven't been on the board in ages, but I can answer this one......the literature ALL contradicts itself. Some say raise the feed bowls, some says that increases risk, don't moisten food or do moisten food.....they do seem to agree that heavy exercise right before or after eating isn't a good idea, and I'm not sure it makes a difference, but it can't hurt.

My akitas are all at risk for bloat. Mostly its the deep chested dogs....I don't take any precautions except try to slow down their eating. I put a rock in the bowl so they have to eat around it and someone else I know feeds the fast eaters in a bundt pan to slow them down. None of my dogs have bloated, but I do know others who were careful and their dog bloated anyway. I'm sorry to hear about more dogs with this

There's a surgery that will staple the stomach so it can't twist. The dog can still bloat with the gas, but the torsion part can't happen. I would get that surgery done if I have a female spayed since she's open allready.

My husband and his family are from there also... Im a Buien Brat LOL

The best way is to not overfeed at one time. Two or three smaller meals are safer than one big meal a day.

I'm sorry to hear about Heather's wolfhound.

My daughter-in-law won't eat my eggs...something about knowing where they come from?! (It's in her head) However, she made some eggs for everyone to eat! These are cupcakes! She is quite the baker. I will be bringing some to our next chicken get together if anyone would like some.

Sounds like an episode of Mystery Diagnosis on Discovery Health, oh ya OWN (Oprah Winfry Network)now!
You should send them and email. Maybe you could be on the show?

It actually turned out to be cancer. I had a benign tumor growing in the appendic. It was blocking the appendics and causing the appendicitis.

Yesterday was Mom's 89th birthday. I took my sister back to Sedro Wooley today. I sent a couple of autumn joy sedums home with her. She sent me home with a couple of big clumps of snow drops; about a hundred bulbs, 5 hellebore seedlings, a couple of Hosta sieboldii, and some hybrid dicentra. I'd say I made out like a bandit.

My basset, Riley was a tricolor, but by the time he died, all the brown had turned to white, so he was just black and white.

Love her white whiskers! So sweet!

When she was a pup she was solid black, except for her chest, and very tips of her two front toes. She has whitened up quite a bit over the past 5 years.

Hi Jupiter,

So nice to see you post again. It has been a long time.
