WHOA wait wait wait, you trim chickens nails? Yah know I've thought about doing this a million times because they looked yucky but I didn't know people actually did this! So is it just like clipping a dogs nail? They have a quick and everything?

Yup. I actually use dog clippers on mine. You can see the quick on a light colored nail (just like a dog's) and the darker ones are darker. If you doubt your clipping abilities, buy a large grit nail file and use that. It takes longer but it's a good place to start.

I have to trim my Houdans' fifth toes all of the time. They don't get worn off like the others and can curl back and grow into their foot.

I worked at a dog groomer and have groomed critters from hamsters to horses

Maybe I'll give this a shot! My hens dig a lot so they don't get too long but maybe I'll make em look pretty if I take them to fair

why is there tape on them ?
I put a tiny piece of duct tape on an egg before I set it that I cracked, a barely visable crack, but not hardly 1/4" square.
It hatched OK, but I always worry about the adhesive chemicals, especially warmed up in an incubator, that can damage a developing embryo...

I think those are the festive easter eggers.

agreed...

It took me three times to learn NOT to help.. Because EVERYTIME I did, the chick had something really wrong and had to be culled anyway. Better to not see the cute fuzzness and have to cull that.

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

On a different note, Is there a concession stand there to get food or are people getting take out/delivery/packing from home for lunch? Don't know Monroe at all so it would be nice to know what my options will be for the fam. Thanks!

Just outside the fairgrounds is a Fred Meyers, Safeway, restaurants and even a Dollar tree to buy more of those cool easter eggers!!

If they laid Godiva eggs, I might consider it...

Cadbury for me.....with fruit & nuts.

Maybe if I feed my ducks a chocolate bar, the egg will taste like one.

I live in Monroe just a mile up the hill from the fairgrounds.

We have a backyard farm that includes:

2 goats (for milk)
New coturnix quail project (for meat and eggs)
Rabbits (meat)
Ducks (eggs and meat)
Chickens (eggs and meat)
Turkeys (meat)
Pigs (meat - don't care for pig eggs

)

And various other critters - just because...
