So the duck egg from this morning has hatched.
Actually I helped it out. I think the crazy hatch box had so many problems it messed up the duck.
I had to peel back the hard shell, then lay the egg on its side & spray lots of water on it.
It should have hatched on saturday. Today is tuesday.
So now we have... MO.......CURLEY......&.....LARRY.
Mo is blue & cream, Curley is Black & cream, and Larry is all blue, form my SQ holderread ducks.
She is a beauty.
Sha might be silver. Dunno, never saw one before. Not sure what I'm a looking at.

They could all be lavenders for what I know. Maybe I sold all the lavenders. Dunno.
Will have to see.
I need that new incubator and I need it NOW!

Had to toss out 7 bad eggs tonight. They look like they were formed, but just dried up.
I did not open them.

Died in the hatch box. Probably poached..maybe deep fried.
I'll leave the next batch in the incubator till the 25th day before I take it out to the killer hatch box.
Maybe it'll have a better chance of hatching if my new bator if it doesn't arrive by Thursday.

YES TONI.....rub your eyes and re read this part.
I am somehow keeping a shiny black duck. If it is too shiny...you'll have to faster it.

Curley hatched on sunday.

A warm welcome to the Washington thread. Feel free to ask questions or simply join the chat.

Chickentrain, welcome.
You've come to the right place.
First, make sure they always have clean water and plenty of food.
Second, The less brezzy the better, A solid shelter is key, (with a place to go out when the weather is nice even if it's freerange.
Third and most important enjoy them. Just remember, everything wants to eat them.
Hope this gets you going.

Sorry Heather! The bulk of it landed in the cup-holder on the right arm-rest - thankfully you had the plastic packaging waste from the chair stuffed in the holder, so I wiped the dressing from that, even though it looked like garbage. There is some on the arm as well that I tried to wipe off, but I was still smelling it. Hopefully it did not stain.

Your birds are doing great! 2 eggs from the Sussex so far; she laid the first one within 5 minutes of getting here, righ out in the middle of the run! She was exploring, stopped to pop out an egg, then kept exploring! Todays egg was in one of the nest boxes, HER nest box! She's got some buddies now that are at the top of the pecking order in my group of hens, so even though she runs from Angel, the RIR and either the marans or the Australorps run to her defense and block Angel. I think she is going to make it to the top of the pecking order without ever having to be aggressive! She's Olivia's favorite because she likes to eat treats from her hands. Her teacher loaned her his camera today so she can take pictures of the new birds to share with the class (no animals allowed in the school).

once i get the motivation to post pics i'll how show you all my Frederick, he is my only Black Langshan Standard, the rest are bantams, I think he is either a genetic throwback, as I'm not really sure how the whole bantam types originally came about, or just got mixed in with the other bantams by accident. he was the same size at first, but he grew a lot faster than his other friends. Depending how he looks I might show him, and then i'll have another excuse to get more birdies!

Oh don't worry about it--I got it on sale.

I'm glad she's fitting in well. She's really a sweet bird and a great layer...she just had too much mossy-ness on her back (excess black) for me to want to show her or keep her to breed.
