i do not know how i stubled upon it but now i have the urge to spin my own wool. if i had a multipurpose sheep then i can groom it and bath and then cut it and spin it. i thought it was harder to make yard.... but i know 50 yards of wool yarn go for alot....... tooo bad a silkie cannot be spun....

I binged the name of his place and found the location on LocalHarvest ... not near Twin Falls SP where I was thinking! Same exit as me, but through town on the other side, kinda near the Ranger Station. If the weather is not too crappy tomorrow (later today I guess) I'll walk by and see if there are chickens where I'm thinking he is between the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and the Middlefork. (12+ yrs ago I had llamas and would walk them along the river. The short trail ended I suspect at the backside of his property.)

CL: My mind was spinning at the show from all the information that I was learning and trying to retain it all. Saying this, I apologize for AGAIN not remembering what the ladies where that you sent home with me. The smaller black, with the feathers up on her face I believe is part Ameraucana, Her name is Juliet. Well, the little girls wanted to go out and free range with the big girls...I figured great way to meet one another. So out they go. Well, as it came time to roost one of my BR bitties was in the little girl's run and Juliet was in the big girl's run....both upset as they could not find their "way home". Got the BR bitty where she needed to go. Caught Juliet to take her home and she bit me....hard. brat. How is that for gratitude? Sheesh. Anyway, the little girls got back to their own little coop and run for the evening. Matilda likes to free range with the big girls, but always goes back to bed with the little girls. I thought that one of these days she may actually follow them into the big coop. I don't know, will she? I figured once I saw that the BR bitties were no longer picking on Matilda then I would put her in the coop with them, but for now, I let her go back to the little girl run/coop.

To everyone else: Bet you didn't know that the Okanogan had a Monsoon season. Well, I didn't either and I have lived here for some 35+ years. Ask RFF, I am sure she is just as excited about it as I am.

I have my Brinsea going with some 25 eggs in it. To fill it up I had taken some of the eggs out of the fridge that I had put in there. I didn't know if they would hatch or not...they had only been in the firdge a few days, but it is colder. I let them all warm to room temp before I put them in the 'bator. Well, yesterday was day 6 and DD was driving me nuts about the eggs...when are they going to hatch, etc...so we and candeled a few, I know this is early, but I was trying to passify DD. Some look definitely clear...nothing. Some have like a dark ring about center, I have been unable to look on line and figure out if this means a blood ring or if this means something else.....but some definitely have....wait for it...wait for it.....

We are so excited.

I think I can now get DD to just watch from the outside and not "worry" them any more. She has not opened the incubator, but she will go down and just stare at it for some time. We marked on the calendar when they should hatch. We also have marked on the calendar when my broody should hatch out the 6 (if any of the are fertile) under her. If it is close to the same time and I have only a few out of this first 'bator hatch...I am going to stick them all under her to take care of. I am going to have a nice little nursery set up for her so she is away from the BR bitties and the other big girls.

funny how they each have a different personality. at least mine do. They can be quirky!! I have one that you dont dare try and eat lunch around, she has no problem flying up and snatching your sandwich right out of your hand lol now if she would just teach those brats of hers to sleep in the roost instead of the nest boxes...

off to go candle my eggs that sat for 12 hours with the bator off....wish me luck...

Ok hatch update!

I followed Chickieladys directions very closely on lockdown. Took each egg out one by one, and candled all 12 of them. All but one are dark, and I can see movement!!! The one that was partially clear, must have quit about half way? Looked like it had two air sacs, and the little dark spot was floating around.

I'm not feeling up to opening it up, still getting over this sinus infection...

So I took out all my heat sink stones, all the deviders, filled the resivours with warm water, lined the egg tray with paper towels, and gently layed the eggs in on their sides! And those little stinkers were rolling ALL over the place!

At first I thought that the incubator just wasnt level, and they were rolling to the low side, but then I noticed that they were going back and forth!

Ive got babies on the way!!! And boy are they active!!!

So, not to count my chicks before they hatch, but... IF they all make it out, "and I dont see why they shouldn't." I will have 7 Blue Ameraucanas, two 1st generation Olive eggers, and two 2nd generation Olive eggers!!! 11 out of 12 made it to lockdown!

I dont think thats to shabby!!!

Chickielady! I hope you get more good news on your DH Momma! What a sad beginning of the year our friends here have had...
