I really hoped to sell hatching eggs this spring, but unfortunately my fertility isn't spectacular right now, and I can't in good conscience sell eggs if fertility isn't as good as it should be.

I will definitely have some for sale at some point this year though.

The thought of having my birds' offspring living all across the country tickles me for some reason.

HI EVERYONE!

I cannot believe how much this has grown! This is a wonderful place to learn ideas and exchange information and just plain chicken fun. I joined this site to learn about chickens because I have always wanted them but always lived in the city. We moved to the country and I finally get to have chickens! I have been reading everything I could but have found this site to have more information on chickens than anything else! We finally did it! We bought a little red barn building 8'X12' from Ziggy's for the chicken coop. Added 23 foot run out of wire cloth (half of it is covered for shade) top enclosed also. I will post pictures soon. Bought 7 cochin banty chickens at Dels. I was so excited! And just my luck, 5 of them are "ROOSTERS". I am a lousy "CHICKEN PICKER"! They are 9 weeks old and starting to crow and sound so funny. How do you pick out girls when they are just babies? I know its hard but it has to be better than 5 boys out of 7 chicks.

I'm in the Lacey/Olympia area, a little over 10 minutes away from the capital building. I just got my first hens this last weekend -- two 10-month old gold-laced wyandottes. They're gorgeous, and producing. This site has been tremendously helpful.

Hi! My husband and I just moved from busy South Tacoma to beautiful, peaceful Tenino, WA. We just started our flock with 8 "donations" from my in-laws. I may post photos for ID help later, but I think have:

1 RIR hen
1 Red Star Sex Link hen
1 Red Sex Link hen
2 Black Australorp (or Black Sex Link?) hens
2 Aracauna hens (one either rumpless or missing her tail feathers, the other quite pecked on)
1 Aracauna roo

We just got them last Saturday, and as of yesterday were getting 5 eggs (2 Aracauna and 3 brown). Everyone seems pretty happy so far...and I'm just loving this chicken keeping thing!

I read up on the feather picking and think I might try a duct tape saddle for my balding Aracauna this weekend to see if that helps. Not sure if the roo is breeding her and causing the damage or not, but I did see the Red Star pick at her AND at the underside of a black one this a.m. when I checked on them. Not cool!

Another Vancouverite here! We have 6 chickens we raised from chicks, they're all about 8 weeks now and finally look like chickens.

wow! Lots of Washingtonians!

I am Kim, we are out on the southern end of the Hood Canal, North Mason County. Looks like there are a few of you not too far from me.

We have Speckled Sussex, Buff (and hopefully black someday) Orpingtons, a few Delaware hens, two handfuls of banty mutts, a few Ameraucana hens, a single Leghorn hen, Pekin and Muscovy ducks, a pair of Khaki/Halequin mix ducks, Quails, Chukars, Nigerian dwarf and Kinder goats, 3 cats and an Aussie Shepherd. Had turkeys and geese, but have to hold off on those for a while while the price of everything keeps climbing.

Looking forward to meeting more WA folks!

Nice to have you on the forum. There are a lot of chicken lovers in your area. A few from Port Orchard (like me) and other areas of the peninsula. I am getting 35 new chicks tomorrow from Ideal Poultry - Hope the Post Office calls me instead of trying to deliver them like they tried last year! Welcome, all new members from Washington - Is anyone having trouble with coyotes this year?
