Do you have a limit as to what you can spend on a puppy? I can peruse the ads here in Spokane and check SCRAPS. I think it is around $75.00 to get a puppy here. This includes the license, shots and a certificate to get the animal spayed or neutered.

With all the people on this site, we can find a way to get one to you!

Something else you should look into CL - Many of the shelters have senior discounts. Years ago when my grandmother wasn't able to find a reason to get out of bed, I found a long haired dachshund for her at the shelter and put a deposit on it until I could get her there the next day to surprise her. Because she was a senior, it ended up costing her less than $25 to adopt the dog instead of the regular $200-$350 it normally cost. That was some years ago, but I'm pretty certain senior discounts still apply. This was at the Pierce County shelter where I still volunteer.

Oh another good idea I will tell DH when I talk to him again. FiL said get rid of all his chickens, most I know he hatched from other chickens he had, so are at best production red frankinchickens.
he says they are RIR, I just said OK and walked away, no way are those RIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frankenchickens at best!
None theless, they are all within 2 years old (I think) and all good layers.
On the downside, they have been neglected and I bet wormy & mitey.
Poor things, DH said he collected over 50 eggs....very rotten from sitting so long.
Happy to say their is a BYCer in NorCal who is going to go get them.
They will have a healthier more attentive owner now.

Welcome to the Washington thread. I can't say that I ever saw any sun yesterday. I did clean the coop in the rain.

I never saw the sun, but it didn't rain. I spent the afternoon digging up dandelions. It must have been windy last night. It blew the row cover off the mini greenhouse. I did discover that the dahlias I left in the ground all winter didn't rot.

Next time he goes home for a visit have him put some Brabanter eggs in his carry on. The gene pool here is really small.

I flew the kids home to the Netherlands for hte holidays last year. But so far I have not been able to get them to ship me any egg, chickens, or seeds. Now I am thinking that they are simply ungrateful brats that don't want to get in trouble. Uf Da!!!!

If you get the right customs paperwork, it's not illegal to bring in eggs.

Yes I "plan to be raising them soon and also know 3 local (Chehalis area) breeders. The RIR bantams are awesome little birds IMO and lay very nice size eggs, small to med on the egg scale.

Sometime I wonder why I bother....

I just found out TODAY 4-6-2011 that the school district dropped my medical coverage. Effective March 1st! All the doctor visits & tests & ER & bloodwork... everything will be billed to me directly!!!

I'm starting to wonder why I have worked all my life? Why have I put up with the school district crap for 11 1/2 years! I did it so that if ever I or my daughters were to get ill then we would have benefits! Now I'm sick and they drop me like a ton of bricks! Sometime our stupid government doesn't make it worth your time to wake up and go to work! They are more than happy to refer me to state assistance which is temporary till I find a job!

I HAVE A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! God forbid we help those who ARE trying to help themselves!!!

So now I get to spend hours on the phone trying to get the insurance that I have been paying EXTRA for! It was a voluntary coverage that was supposed to help fill the gap!

I am so darn if I do and darn if I don't.

Somedays seem so hopeless......
