Welcome from the Washington state night crew. I have a spare Welsummer, EE, or a Wyandotte that could be available.

I really think that you can count your ducklings before they hatch, it just the chicken that you can't count.

Well, Cheryl, I cannot answer this with an educated answer. I would only answer with what I do....my chickens are spoiled. I cook them oatmeal. I cook them spaghetti noodles (worms). I buy loaves of bread, just for me girls, that the DH and DD can sit in the yard and feed them, by hand.

I took my lunch of scrambled eggs and toast outside to eat in the garden. As soon as I found a nice boulder in the sun to sit on, Penny (RIR) and Huckleberry (Autralorps) came running over, hopped on the boulder with me and ate from my plate

Even worse because I continued to eat, though I tried to avoid anything they got too close to. - I hadn't had breakfast and was hungry!

I have had a very similar experience. I just figure that it just makes us tougher.

Well I guess it's time for me to head off to my perch.

The good news is, DH installed a new keyboard in my lap top today, and I must say that I am deeply impressed by how well it works.

The bad news is that I don't have any baby chickens.

You didn't feed them from your fork....how could you not ? LOl. My middle son was horrified one day when I made scrambled eggs for the hens to eat. He thought that was just wrong. I informed him that quite a few species would eat their young.....then I turned and gave him an evil smile.....He told me I was just wrong.

Whether free ranging or in the run, we cannot go through the back door without everyone trying to get at us...they are spoiled rotten. But I like having friendly hens. I was turning the dirt in my garden last weekend trying to get it ready to plant....I had 3 or 4 hens all around me as they figured it out that as I turned dirt....worms appeared. I think there are some worms left in my garden....but they all did a pretty good job of eating everything they could find. Now, I get out a shovel or rake and I get a couple of hens running over to me. Such moochers.

Jen: ARe these your Seramas? Are they bantam? I read where 5 of their eggs = 1 AA egg. Are they truly that tiny? Tell me about them. I read that they are not really compatible with cold....hence, are they doable in my area? I am afraid it is too cold for them here.

Two of them are seramas- the other is Solo and she is a mille fleur cochin

I will tell you much as you wanna know about the seramas

mine do fine here- I did use a light on the smaller ones this last winter during the snows and if the temp dropped into the teens. If you have a coop/hutch that they can get into that is protected from the weather, they would do fine. I had a frizzle that was TINY and the little silkie girl I worried they couldn't stay warm enough during those cold spells, and they are the main reason I turned a light on in their hutch. There's folks all over the place that have them, including some pretty bad weather areas. So if you really wanted them I know you could make it work

A good place to go to learn is The Serama Council of North America. If I weren't Typing on my phone I Would link it for ya! Lol!

Thank you so much. I will go and look. My DD really liked them. She likes the way that the Roos look...Straight up, chest out. They look like they are full of themselves. Are yours the bantams?

I have never housed rabbits together and it has been years since I had a breeding program...so I am a bit rusty. I know that does are EXTREMELY territorial and will beat the snot out of another rabbit. That is why a doe is always taken to the bucks cage for breeding. Ask your vet? If you are neutering him...I would spay her...for the exact same reasons. To keep their personalities in check. Rabbits are prolific...hence the term "producing like rabbits". I never intentionally bred my does at 4 months....but it would depend on when she became breeding mature. If he was "humping" her....did he suddenly go stiff in the body and fall off like he just seized up or had a stroke? This is how rabbits mate...don't get spooked. If he did...you are in trouble. Wait....are you saying she is 8 weeks old - NO she is not sexually mature. But how hold is he? He may be sexually mature or he could be starting to mature and have interest. He could hurt her.

Seramas only come in bantam:) they are actually smaller -- they are cutenesses.
