Welcome from the Washington state night crew. I have a spare Welsummer, EE, or a Wyandotte that could be available.

Thanks, I got an e-mail from a breeder in Granite Falls by the name of Royce V B (not sure if I should be using names on the forum). I believe he is a BYC member as well? He has a Ameraucana pullet available that he was culling from his breeding program. I e-mailed him last night, and am still waiting to hear back- will definitely contact you if this falls through....thanks for all the kind suggestions. We are keeping all other pullets under close guard from now on if they free range!

He has great stock. I think you will do well with his "pet quality" birds. Hope it works out.

Just thought I'd share my overwhelming joy...Moving to a farm!

The other day I decided I wanted to live somewhere I could start my own little poultry farm and began posting around various networks, and right off the bat we were invited to live on an Apple/blueberry/native plant farm in Snohomish called Skipley Farm! Went to the property and everything was like out of a fairy tale...7 beautiful acres, a large pond, a lovely farm house for cheap and they offered me a job as a partime landscaper with their company. The main reason they invited us is because they want to expand their farm and start doing animals and birds too! So I get to have geese, chickens, ducks and turkeys like I've always wanted!

If anyone knows a good place to get poultry in the area ( all kinds really...) then let me know, also I hope to be more involved on this site now that I'm going to be running my own set up, and will probably have a lot of questions. I apologize in advanced, haha.

We're also looking into sheep, goats and other farm animals, so if anyone has advice about where to look for those, that would be cool.

I'll post pictures of the property and a link to the website once I have it up and running.

Welcome to our chatty site.
Sorry you had cyote encounter. This is their active season. I saw a few on Novelty hill road, just sitting there, watching the horses in the middle of the day next to a very busy road.
They are not afraid of humans and I doubt if it would have made a difference if you were closer to the chickens. What would you have done if you were closer?

On getting chickens, have you thought of bringing your DD to the chicken show in Stevenson? There will be lots of chickens there & lots of BYC folks there too. You'll end up with a good one...or six.

Yeah I am just off Novelty Hill Road. Maybe they will turn their focus on the exploding wild rabbit population in our neighborhood instead!

When is the Stevenson show? Sounds interesting, although we cannot possible buy any more chickens!!!! (I am already planning a shed conversion for the next coop, so I can add a few more- part of my 10 year plan!) Right now I am stoppping at 5 ;-(

Discipline vs chicken math vs HOA coming down on us.

I'm hallerlake's friend in Lacey, and have finally taken the chance on getting some chickens after watching my next-door cousin's flock thrive for a year despite coyotes, raccoons, Red Tails, Bald Eagles, Cooper's Hawks, and the occassional visit from a Longtailed Weasel, all of these even though we're right smack in the middle of Puget Sound suburbia a couple of miles off I-5.

I bought a pair of teenage BLRWs from Rainwolf, and am looking for a couple or three hens; I've got mobility issues caused by fifty-odd years of farming while clumsy, and as cute as chicks are neither my health nor my other obligations (especially the monitoring of my small herd of Beef Shorthorn cows and their crossbred calves; I'm the tag-end specialty part of a larger mostly Angus operation) are up to the demands of keeping baby chicks. I'm also/primarily a photographer, and will be posting some pics as soon as I'm allowed.

And I am, no matter what my current location looks like, a Stumpfarmer by breeding and habit; my metier is recycled materials and ease of construction, and I'll never be the person you look to for fine architecture in chicken housing!

Well I know where you can get quality meat sheep / lambs here on my side of Puget sound. They are actually on bainbridge island, the farm they are breed and raised on has been in operation for the past 35+ years.
