I think the chickens got tired of the cold weather & tried to hot wire the old car to make a run for Vegas, but the car caught on fire. You could just see it on their faces. The big roo with the black and green shiny feathers never made it out alive. Tail feathers too long.

Thank you everyone! he is a big strapping colt too. his mom is a good 15'2 and his legs are almost as long as hers!! she had him in the pasture just before I got home from my moms b day dinner, he was already up. we brought him up to the barn I told my friend Murray to pick him up and he says to big...so I said I would get the big wheel barrow...he says...I dont think he will fit! I just checked on him, he is only a couple hours old and I watched him do a little lope and butt hop across the big stall. I have been waiting for him to arrive for almost a month, his due date was March 26th.

Congrats on the new colt! Hows mamma doing with the new arrival?

Ok Gottcha! Gotta love Jet Deck! I have always been partial to the old lines, with three bars, Poco Bueno, Oklahoma star, Music mount ect. Those were the lines of horses we had as a kid. I haven't kept up too much with them lately, although I still remember some including Doc O lena, Lark spur I think was one, It all depends and what you want to do with your horse as to which line you have, Jet Deck was racing quarter, ( we used to have friends that had that line and raced in the Tricities and Waitsburg ect)
Anyway, Congrats and good luck with the little guy, I'll be watching to see how gets along!

I had leased a horse i would show with who had Impressive in him.... needless to say this horse had to have surgery on his back right and his gait was a little weird because the owners didn't exercise him enough while recovering. Always had to tell the judges that he has Impressive in him otherwise they would throw me out or DQ thinking he was lame. Parz was really well trained and i won many shows with him. He was actually one of the smoothest QH i have ever ridden.... (i owned for 5 years) Chief my double registered paint had a trot that would shred your organs, no one would believe me when i complained of side pains when riding him, but his canter was nice, i think his favorite was walking. so not as good in western pleasure but he did awesome in trail.

Can you share where you were showing? I have been around the show world a long time... lame is lame and telling the judge your horse has impressive in his lines means nothing and a lame gait will get you excused. that goes for 4H to breed level etc. Impressive horses did not have a genetic defect that made them look lame or caused them to have surgery. Some had what is called HYPP or Hyperkalemic periodic paralysis. It came from a mutated gene within Impressive himself. a HYPP episode is sudden collapse and violent muscle tremors, quite often fatal if not immediately treated. If your horse had surgery on a hind leg it was not due to having Impressive in his pedigree. You would not be able to continue showing your horse in any class just because you gave the judge an excuse as to why his gait looked odd. Surgery was to repair what? stifle? very likely if the horse was not rehabbed properly his gait would be affected and he would no longer be fit for showing. If a horse looks lame it is lame. The rules state lameness will be excused regardless of reason. There are no bloodlines that are allowed to show if lame just because a particular horse is in the pedigree.
Did you show in 4H? breed shows? I show some in Quarter horse and NRHA shows now. I love the reining even though I am not very good at it. at least my stud horse knows what he is doing

This is why we dissected also. One of the fetuses had what looked like a burst blood vessel....just a lot of blood in that area. I really don't know what I wa looking at. My DD was upset at first, but I also did it for her...she needs to learn these things and I would rather peak her curiosity and not have her a babbeling idiot (like I was being - where she could nto see me) because the chickies died. The emotion is okay, but I also wanted her to understand that mother nature is not always the nicest person/thing and sometimes things just happen out of our control. She was okay (not me so much as I figure I killed them) after we talked. It was very interesting though. I was afraid that if I waited much longer in the incubator they may explode or something. I can't wait until I can do the next load (this weekend) and implement all the things that I have learned.

When I disected the egg, I showed it to my DH, he said eww gross, showed it to my mom, she said interesting! lol I didnt dare let little Chloe see, she's still to young to understand I think. She's only two. Anyways I thought it was very interesting!

it was 4-H the vet checks at our show checked him as sound, he just had a funny gait because the owners i leased him from did not rehab him after surgery well. I had him for all of 2 years i think before the owners found someone willing to pay over $5000 for him. There was another good horse (dead now) who was kept at the same stable owned by the same people (who never visited, they lived in monroe). his name was Hardy. He made any horse in the show ring look cheap. but he passed from old age.

when I was a kid my parents rented a cabin at Bakers landing every summer. loved going up there every weekend!!

We need to find somewhere to take the horses! I have two that need riding bad! Older guys but, nice riding horses! I promised them both they were going to get rode more this year! I have 5 acres but, just jumping on and riding here is dangerous! we have a country road that people love to speed on and no way to get off it, so if I go riding I pretty much have to trailer!

In August we are hauling 4 horses out to Copalis crossing, and are gonna be spending the weekend riding the coast! Im so looking forward to going. Hopefully nothing comes up that makes it so I cant go along.

There is also talk of hauling out to the Bitterroot mountain in Western Montana this summer. My family has ove 500 acres of mountain property. Ive always wanted to ride it, but think I better get myself a rifle first. Lots of bear out on that property. Then again theres lots of bear here too. lol
