This is why we dissected also. One of the fetuses had what looked like a burst blood vessel....just a lot of blood in that area. I really don't know what I wa looking at. My DD was upset at first, but I also did it for her...she needs to learn these things and I would rather peak her curiosity and not have her a babbeling idiot (like I was being - where she could nto see me) because the chickies died. The emotion is okay, but I also wanted her to understand that mother nature is not always the nicest person/thing and sometimes things just happen out of our control. She was okay (not me so much as I figure I killed them) after we talked. It was very interesting though. I was afraid that if I waited much longer in the incubator they may explode or something. I can't wait until I can do the next load (this weekend) and implement all the things that I have learned.

When I disected the egg, I showed it to my DH, he said eww gross, showed it to my mom, she said interesting! lol I didnt dare let little Chloe see, she's still to young to understand I think. She's only two. Anyways I thought it was very interesting!

Or she might find it fascinating and start opening every egg she can get her little hands on.

Yeah that wouldnt be good. lol I can just see it now. Incubator full of eggs, and little miss Chloe reaching her grubby little hands in and cracking them all open...

Good thing the incubator gets locked in my closet until lock down!

My husband is funny. He griped when I told him I ordered more eggs. Then last night, he started bugging me about when they will arrive! He is a closet chicken lover! lol I even caught him playing with the chicks inside the brooder yesterday morning! lol He thought I was still asleep!

Silly closet case! Like its really such a bad thing!

So this is one of the Blue Ameraucanas that I hatched from Chickieladys eggs... Not very blue, barely even a smoky apperence to the feathers... What do you all think?

I'm having problems with my camera. it says my card is full. It's says it's full even after I erased all my pictures and formatted th card. It says it's full even even when I put in a brand new blank card. Otherwise I would take pictures of my chickies. The feathers are growing in on their shoulders like little epaulets.

Have you tried cleaning the internal memory of your camera? I had the same issue with mine, until I cleared the actual camera memory... Just a thought.

Th buck eye chicks I borrowed from Rainwolf start out strawberry blond. The feathers are coming in dark brown. Chick fuzz color doesn't seem to mean much.

Pull out the memory card, then delete just like you would if the card was still in the camera. At least thats how mine works. It was quite frustrating for a while, until I figured it out.

But if you look, this little one does have feathering already. Feathers over entire wings, starting across the back, the tail. The head, neck, and underside is still fuzzy. So about 30% feathered in. Has barely a smoky tinge to the outer edges of the feathers, but the rest is white. There is another lighter colored chick also, but its feathering in a very light smoky blue. Its very interesting how they all differ from eachother.
