I will go and do some ILT research. She has no sneezing, wheezing, snot, etc. Actually after I picked her up and "roughed her up" (meaning I picked her up and checked her vent and felt her head and listened to her breathing and checked her over) she has been looking jst fine. She was just out there eating and drinking. I think I am paranoid. Overly cautious.

Also, you were the one selling the vaccines for chickens? I need to talk to you. I am hatching out some chicks and would like to vaccinate so I know that everyone is healthy. Please PM me if you could with information.

I did a quick check on ILT and she has none of those symptoms. She is just shaking her head.

Nope, it was pips&peeps (Jean).

Glad your girl doesn't have any other symptoms...just watch her closely....

Could she have gotten pecked on by someone?

It is totally possible as she is is pretty low on the "pecking pole" right now. She is just so big...she needs to not let them bully her. Sheesh.

You named a chicken after me? Is she pretty?

Dierdre-the-chicken IS pretty --- my opinion -- black head with golden flecks, black "teardrops" under her eyes, golden-copper neck, standard gold-brown-and-black duckwing-type EE ...

named after that Irish legend, Dierdre of the Sorrows ...

rich velvety colors -- NOT shiny ! --- mossy-slate legs

the other hens have gold, bronze, or rusty colored heads -- three have off-white faces with "eyeliner"

DH says much more interesting than white Leghorns or RIRs ... each chicken is slightly different in coloration or pattern

besides Dierdre, we have Anitra, Becky, Christina, Phoebette, Ginger, and as I mentioned, Moonlight

(didn't realize we were naming her after you, but .... glad it happened)

Yep - sounds like we need photos of Hallerlake's pretty namesake!

ETA: Oh, SMART namesake, but I'm sure she's pretty too.

Hey,
If anyone is online, I have a silly danged White EE and she is crazy broody, always trying to steal someone else's eggs. So, I gave her the eggs that went unfinished by the EE Banty ladies. I doubt if anything is going to hatch in that nest now. So, I am heading to the Co-Op to buy some commoner chicks (RIR, BR, WL, and who knows what else) and put them under her. She has only had her nest to herself for about 3 days now. Do you think she needs more time to sit on eggs to be ready to take care of some chicks? I guess I wonder if they need some down time to just chill and sit on eggs to be prepared for motherhood.

Yes there are two of us Christina's on the thread. I believe that we even have the same last name. The odds of that must be fairly high. I think that the other Christina goes by the nickname of Christy though, and that is not been used for me yet.

I don't even think that the two of us Christina's live that far apart either.

I tried once to give my Silkie some chicks, and she didn't seem to want anything to do with those nasty little things. But I am wondering that if you slipped the chicks in after dark that your broody may not figure out that anything is off. Just be very prepared to intervene very fast so that the chicks don't get cold or attacked. But it is worth a shot to try. I don't think that it makes much difference to a broody as to how long they have been on the nest.

Thank you. I think I will go gather some chicks then. I would that I was having the chicks that I really crave so much, but I wouldn't want to experiment with my goofy white lady on some Cuckoos or various Ameracaunas or some such.
Off to the Chickie Land then,
Again thanks for helping me out here.

I always say I have Junior moments, not Senior moments ---

I was named after my aunt but no one (yet) has been named after me ...

I do have a granddaughter named Hailey ,,, AND ,,, a greatgranddaughter named Hailey

(Krystle didn't realize she was naming her daughter the same as her stepdad's niece)

they're only a year and a half apart in age, must have been the "name of the year"

You want to contact Christina Korfus through the Washington Feather Fanciers site.

Or, if you can make it to the show in Stevenson this weekend, she will be there I'm sure.
