i am going to call my local farmers market manager and ask because it is not in the local market rules and the state rules do not say anything against it.

since i already have the permit to sell eggs but i do not want to deal with the headache of processing birds to sell

you think i could make some money selling chicks at the local farmers market? everyone wants to raise their own and the feed stores will be done next month selling chicks....

its just so cold at home that i think a late start or people still on the fence and things like that would like to buy local heritage mutt chicks.

think its a prospect? maybe at $2 a chick?
I would like to be able to slowly recover $ spent on the sportsman incubator... and after my test batch i hope to approach the local feed stores and ask them if they would like to sell chicks once a month.... or would i just be better off selling them on craigslist?

i am a bit envious of you who are not on here because you are all hanging with your peeps at the show...

Oh Geez and heavenly daze!!! So I trotted off to town and the Co-Op only had RIR, BR and Sexlinks (never had them before) so I got 3 of each to tuck under my Hatching Crazed Broody EE. Got home and of course, one of the eggs I figured was a dud, hatched. So now she has one wet newbie and about 8 more eggs under her. And I now have custody of 9 little wee bairns with no light and not set up for them at all. I put them in the bath tub (only warm room in the house with no cats or dachshunds. The tub is cold so I hotted up my hot water bottle and settled them on top of it. Scattered some food around and left some mayo lids with water where they can reach. I guess I will put them under the Lovely Lady in a few whiles and let her keep them warm over night.
Fine mess I got me into Ollie!
I forgot how much I love hanging with little peeps. Might have to build a little brooder tomorrow and get ready to launch into Spring Frenzy... if IF IFFFF Spring ever decides to make a showing.
My family keeps asking why I am getting more chicks???? How will I afford to feed them? I don't know? Not buy stupid things like, Fuschias or seeds or potting soil or potted plants. I think not! I think just don't go anywhere and don't buy gas. Or don't buy meat... certainly will have enough protein coming out of the hen houses...
How do we NOT get new chicks? The addiction is stronger than my will power...
And you guys are my 12 step program. 12 Step Enablers is more like it...

Anyway: Oakville in the rain. We were most of the way to the farm when the hip I injured in... what was the second cold spell, January?... started giving me fits, and I was trying to do the whole grown-up responsible farmer person thing (which, Mz. DZ, is much less natural to me than, say, talking about Picasso!) while about ready to cry for the pain. Goes to show you, pick up stray loops of wire and baling twin against the day they freeze into the ground and trip you up.

Anybody want to see a picture of (almost) my new baby bull?
