Oh, nice.

So, (she says, eyes shifting left to right to make sure nobody sees her considering this) Cochins bred to clean legged chickens have clean-legged offspring? Verrrrrrry interesting. I hear the hens are really good brood hens and great moms, too, is that the case? And tell me, what color are their eggs?

(Trying to come up with the perfect Other Hens).

They're chickens, what can you expect? I moved the chicken tractor to clean ground this morning and Sylvia walked into the precise center of the clean grass and carefully deposited a poo.

Hey, CR, if you see this and are still in Stevenson, can you look at your PM or email for an urgent message? Thanks!

I finished washing down the donated chicken tractor/run today since for a change it wasn't raining --- then very daringly, after it dried, I let the chicks out into it

took them over 15 minutes to decide whether they wanted to leave the coop or not -- heads poked out, then hastily popped back

eventually we gathered up the two "most daring" chicks, dumped them into the tractor, and the others gradually joined them

they took their time deciding what to do --- then started really enjoying it -- three of them unearthed worms, two caught flies that were foolish enough to buzz past, and one stalked a spider

Cheddar-the-cat walked by several times, only mildly scanned them; first time the chicks dashed for the coop, second time they stared him down, third time they completely ignored him

I sat out with them until I got cold (and it was almost 6 PM) -- then shooed/herded them back into the coop; they didn't want to go

tomorrow DH is going to get wheels for the thing, since it's way heavy to DRAG around --- and we will get some better, sturdier wire to cover it, since it is definitely not a thing of beauty, and the loose ends of chicken wire left long scratches all over my hands

LOL...yes, Veggies...that is my story and I am sticking to it.

I have a total of 8 BR/bantam cohin cross...there are some with feathered legs and some without. I can try to get a photo of the 6 I hatched in the brooder...and 2 under my cochin hen. She is a FANTASTIC mom. She hatched out 2 of my BR/cochin eggs that I put under her, I didn't give her many and when I candeled them only 2 were fertile. I really did not know how she would do as a mom and I just grabbed a few eggs that were layed that morning and stuck them under her. her babies were 2 days old and I went and bought 3 sexlinks from the local feedstore. That night I slipped them under her....she did not even blink an eye...they are all her's as far as she is concerned. The eggs that were BR hen/cochin roo where a brown - Typical BR eggs. The two eggs that hatched from my cochin hen (in the incubator) were small and almost more a round shape and also brown.
