one of these days i would like to:
A. come to one of your freezer camps
B. raise my own birds to bring to freezer camps
C. take samples (with Qtip or petri dish) of the surface of birds and equipment at each stage
then take it to get tested and see what the results are and to compare with comercially USDA inspected poultry...

I bet the home processed will have more bacteria but it will be harmless strains.... as opposed to antibiotic resistant strains....

What do you guys think?

yes, I finally put my chick feeder inside a HUGE bread dough bowl, with a ceramic plant saucer inverted underneath the feeder (but in the bowl) -- since my lot were constantly billing and spilling the feed on the ground, then not cleaning it up

Hellloooo everybody!!!! so good to be back. Finally got my computer back a few hours ago and so excited to be back in business. No way I can get caught up after a week and a half but hope everyone had a great time at the show. Jbear was kind enough to bring back a gorgeous Black Mottled Cochin cockerel from Joe Mazur for me to use in my Mille Cochin project. So excited, he is awesome and so thankful to Jen for doing that for me. BTW have a really nice Show quality Mottled splash banty cochin cockerel for sale if anyone is interested. He will make some nice show blue or black mottled cochins for someone. He's almost as nice as the Black I just got. Would love to breed for mottleds but don't need another project! He'll be going on Craigslist soon.

There's a cool treadle feeder in the Learning Center. Makes your chickens look so smart!

I bought a step-on style waste-paper basket for my office so I could trow out food-ish smelling trash without the dogs dragging it all over; I just now caught Ruby opening it. I wish animals were only intelligent when it made life easier for their humans!

I kept getting angry with my kids for leaving the guest bedroom door open - the cat goes in and sleeps on the bed, and I try and keep the room fur free for my friends that are allergic to cats. Saturday I saw the cat walk up to the closed door and pull of the lever handle to release the latch while pushing her boday against the door to open it! Smart cat. Now if only I could teach her how to use a lint roller to get rid of the evidence.

Sounds like you'll have to go to a round knob for that door!

We had an orange tabby back in the 80's that was trained to use the toilet. No litter box needed but you did have to make sure the lid was up!
