this is sick, thats why I want to grow my own chicks.

X2 I actually think the way they process (butcher & clean) is 99% of where all the pathogens get on the meat....the last 3 times I have bought chicken, it was way past rotten, so much so that I could smell the rot through the plastic bag.

We are gonna 'do' our own.

Well, I do have 4-wheel drive, but it is a brand new pick up and I would NOT want scratches....still a bit picky about that..LOL. We will have to make arrangements to meet though. We can have our own private "secret" chicken cult over on our side of the mtns....like those webbed toed folk do. (you know who you are)

Ilove the first one, would love one on a cast iron pan...

Problem is that people don't tend to part with "intact" C I skillets !!!

I caught DH with a armload from the dump, and confronted him with what he was intending to do with them....(were they for me ???)
No, he was intending to take them to the shooting range to blow holes in them with his H & H mag.........
somad.gif
I got them away from him just in time.
He was bummed, guess it is not as much fun to just shoot at targets...

It was a good, little coop but we upgraded to the engineered dog house (which we'll prob sell after we get them set in the shed).
Got lots of hits so far- so many people have chickies & duckies...

There's a reason I don't grow roses. Actually there are several reasons.

This, maybe?

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a41/Julia_here/P1010327.jpg

What's hilarious (not) about that mess is that I got it when I was fixing the wheelbarrow and the leg of the chair I was sitting on suddenly cut through a (unidentified burrowing mammal: I've got 'em all) burrow and dropped a foot, dumping me into the base of the New Dawn. All that damage ws through long sleeves, too.

But could you imagine me without roses? I can't.

Geeze, that ain't nothing !
You ought to see me after I 'prune' the black berries that are trying really hard to encase us here in the wee barn...if you are quiet, you can hear them growing...
I get scratched & bloody toes to head, and half the time the torns stick in & hurt like the Dickens!!!!!!!!!!
I will trade you anyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I have no roses for the same reason..I grow Nasty-sturtiams !!!

(Go eat, Julia, your BG was 98 ten minutes ago)

Do the 5 gallon bucket feeders, then they cannot 'beak' the feed out all over the floor !

On the last picture, you can see the sides of the bucket are splashed with feed from the birds 'beaking' it to dig for what they want.
This is easy, cheap, and works.
We even have made small ones for the fledging chicks, out of folger's coffee cans.
DH cur about 15 holes with a door knob cutter around a bucket for my chicks fledged cuz they are so messy!
Bear in mind, a big cock bird with a large neck & comb, such as LF Cochin, will need a bigger hole.
A sawzall works, then sand paper off any sharp edges.

Thanks CL I had seen yours when ya showed pics before. My concern is where to put enough of them so 24 can eat. Also I have a real thing about rotating feed so the oldest gets used first. How do you keep the feed on the bottom from getting old and stale. I will try to get pics of my idea tomorrow.

When I fill them (every other day or more if there is alot of birds in the coop) stir it around.
If you have too many birds, get more buckets.

Holy Applesauce! I finally caught up!?!?

We have been working on the new coop & have the foundation done, sub floor done, and floor in, and painted.
Tonight we build a tent over it with a tarp to keep the Washington sunshine off it tonight.
If it rains the next week...it sits.
If not, walls will go up.

Oh, and we are doing the run to Monroe this Saturday for those waiting for birdies..PM me if you are still interested so we can plan our route.
Mom and Dad said they were coming to lunch here today...so I made the tortilla chip Mexican soup, with diced pork loin, and garnished with clilantro, avacado & a squeeze of lime...bought expensive bread and luch meat and at 1 o'clock I figures either something bad happened or they forgot completely.
They forgot.

So now I have this huge pot of awesome soup....
he.gif

So I froze 3/4 of it/ for a rainy day

OK, I am outta here to go close coops.
Night all!
