Sooooooo.......I let my girls out and then got my broody up off the nest so she could eat and poop. I thought the other girls were gone so I left for a few minutes to start dinner. I came back out to put her back in the nest she is using and what do I see? Her and my Splash Marans fighting! They are somewhat bloody too! No serious injuries, but geez! I broke it up and took a good look at both and put my Ameraucana back on her nest of fake eggs. (I don't have the energy, nor am I home enough to keep her off the nest) So are broodies always this grump? I am pretty sure she started it because my Marans is very non-confrontational. But now her white feathers aren't white anymore! I don't mind dirt, but blood stays around forever! If I bath her, what should I use? Funny, I thought only cocks fight this way!

REST IN PEACE CHLOE! My faithful companion for 16 years. Out of the entire litter of pups you chose me and we raised those boys together. Not sure what kind of job we did. I might not live to know the answer since it's not over yet but you were a constant in my life and I will miss you. No more pain! Run in green pastures with Hannah Banana until we meet again. Thank you so much for your unconditional love.

My companion of 16 years has passed. My beloved yellow Lab Chloe had too many problems and asked to be relieved of duty today. We had her humanely relieved of those duties by our wonderful friend and equine vet in our home. What an awsome way to go. No fear and among friends and those who loved her. A wonderful dog who never left my side, who couldn't get or give enough love and also never enough to eat! Till we meet again my friend! Cheers to a wonderful life.

BCM are the one's that lay the darkest eggs. Oh and its Marans even if your just talking about one bird.. Is that what you wanted to know?

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, and Cuckoo Marans are a breed of Marans chickens originating from Marans, France.
Mine lay very creamy dark brown eggs.
Jumbo.
They are nice, peaceful docile birds as are Blue Copper Marans and Black Copper Marans ans all other flavors(wheaten, birchen, etc)
They all have pink legs & feet (sometimes with a little slate to them in the blue coppers), orange eyes, and all about the same body 'type'.
Plymouth Barred Rocks are an American breed, along with the other colors of PBRs: Buff, white, partridge, barred, silver penciled, etc.
They have orange eyes, and yellow legs & feet.
Their feathers grow slowly, so form a sharply defined black & white barring, whereas the Cuckoo Marans develope faster, and so the barring is blurred.
They lay a nice light brown large egg, are a good dual purpose breed, hardy too.
The Cuckoo Marans are also a sex-linked breed, where the males are much lighter, and the females darker.
You can go on the breeds index listed above & see more on each.
I will get some photos for ya one sunny day...............

Oh CL,
No with the pink legs for the Blue Coppers and Black Coppers, you want nice dark legs. The Wheatons can also be sexed about 2-3 weeks out.
Our eggs are a 7-8 on the Marans color chart.
