I had to look that one up. Didn't want to sound too dense posting here and asking what a Sizzle was. I guessed it was a cross with a Silkie.

They are cute I just cant wait, Im sure I'll have a few that will need a home. But wait cant count the eggs before they are hatched..

I only candle on day 18. But if I think the eggs could be bad than I will at around 12 or so.

X2.shipped eggs I candle before setting to be sure they are not cracked or scrambled, and mark any with bad air cells or air bubbles, etc.
At day 10 or 12 , I candle again and especially pay attention to the eggs I marked first.
Fresh unshipped eggs I set and do not touch til day 18 other than to quarter turn them in the turner...in other words, for 10 days they go North & South in the turner.
Give each egg a quarter twist so now they are going East to West.
Keeps the chicks looser in the egg.

Here is where I have lots to learn as of yet....I do not know what it was that I was looking for in the "pre-setting". Unsure what a "scrambled" egg would look like or if the air sac was bad or any air bubbles. I did know that to look for the porous eggs as I read that sometimes they were not quite as good for hatching. I did have a couple where I could see an air bubble - didn't know what this was. I am still learning and having a good time doing. Next time I will mark any I am feeling questionable about.

BTW...having a hard time typing as the pup is in my lap and is trying to "help"

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I have the humidity lowering now. I did not get the pump...I just use the reservoirs in the bottom. Yep, I was going to re-review the lockdown procedures.

Oh, that's the difference. I didn't get the Advance or the pump either. I'm also using the reservoirs. I see that during lockdown the vent is supposed to be open at least a third of the way, but do we fill both reservoirs to increase humidity? I'm not clear how else to increase humidity. Seems like just closing the vent a smidge wouldn't make that much difference.

I think I closed my vent and I filled both reservoirs...the book had a section on lockdown that helped me out. Also. ...go on Youtube and there (surprisingly) many how to videos for Brinsea 20

grrr... i don't know how but i had gotten unsubscribed. i thought you guys were too quiet.

well i saw someone fundraising krispy kremes so i bought a dozen. i can tell they are 24 hours old from the way the glaze is. (sad that i can identify that...)

its windy and cloudy. last night driving here from home once i hit colfax it suddenly got dark and i realized i was under a monsoon cloud... i would rather drive in a whiteout snow storm than go through that again....
i got sunburnt on saturday when i was home.... my face (because i was wearing my sunglasses) is an inverted coon.

I also realized i have 2 blue andulsian hens... which is odd since my parents said they found one dead a few weeks ago.... i think it was some other chicken.... which i cannot identify missing. that they threw away.

I locked Lionel (by buff columbia brahma who is 3 years old) in with some hens that i want intentionally crossed with him... and i think he appreciates the access to hens without roosters harassing him. I noticed that he is a recessive color so many hens crossed with him have type and feathering but have the hens color. Leg feathered barred rock? leg feathered blue andulsian? Brahma X Leghorn? brahma X acona? brahma x wellsummer?
When i am back home in 1.5 weeks i will candle my current test batch. next week after i candle i will have to hurry and order some more expensive eggs if everything is going well... then again if i have a very successful batch then i *could* have 30 new mutt chicks that i know nothing about since some hens are hit up by 5+ different roosters

Who has these breeds in this state that i can buy hatching eggs from?
Blue Birchen Marans
Blue Copper Marans
Golden Cuckoo Marans
Partridge Penedesenca
Icelandic

I need them shipped here the week of May 16 so let me know who has some i can order and the price per dozen.
Thanks. I plan on ordering May 7 (after i get home to candle my test batch to see how well i am doing before investing in more expensive...)

zip code for shipping is 98847

Hello All! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself, I'm Sierra and i'm in Snohomish. I'm just a newbie, but so far have managed to accumulate 2 cochins, 2 marans (1 blue splash roo, and 1 blue hen), 1 RIR hen, and some Marans and olive egger chicks that i'm waitin to see what they turn out to be. Also a rescued pair of India blue peacocks, and a red golden pheasant cock (I'm looking for some hens for him). I'm going to have to expand at some point, I think! We've also got 6 horses, 3 dogs and one "barn" cat (who much prefers looking at the outside from his perch on the inside of the house

). Im excited to learn more, especially about the pheasants and some waterfowl too.

Welcome, it's good to have you! You sound like you have a great 'start' to you bird addiction!

We had a Red Golden pheasant wandering around our development a couple years back. It was a real eye catcher!!! Than one day it was just gone.

Have no clue where it came from or who, if anyone, it belonged to.
