Would one soak one's own head in bleach? Might be a good starting question.

I think somebody like this probably would !!!!

nope, I hadn't read that one, looking forward to finding it in the library or bookstore

I used to use "north Thurston County" -- but people thought I lived up by the Delta wetlands ---
if you know where Stewarts Meats is ... we are a long spit behind that ... LOL

just south of the Centralia Power Canal .. about a quarter of a mile from the river at this point ... and up on a big heap of glacial till (Mount Saint Helens revealed that we have a fault line just at our south property line ... but it didn't open up during the last Olympia area earthquake)

Hahaah-- I just realized I totally messed that up too -- I am directionaly challenged

Aw, so you weren't referring to that story huh? Lol-

Yes-- it is a fun book. Hope you find it and then like it!

Good Lord! At our 4H Spring Fling show last year one of the older 4H kids did a demonstration on how to bathe your birds, and he used bleach in the soapy water. When he was done, I made sure ALL of my 4H kids were making eye contact with me, AND I was within ear shot of this kids mother, and I said "If I EVER hear of ANY of you using bleach on your birds you will NOT be allowed to show at fair." They ALL got it. They were even asking me before I said that if it was such a good idea that he was doing it.

i bet she didn't realize it is supposed to be the Bleach Alternative... I wish people would quit yelling at her though, that isn't going to help.. no wonder people become afraid of asking for advice and then instead of asking and learning.. keep bleaching or whatever.

Sometimes common sense isn't so common.. See it ALL the time in Veterinary Medicine.

I don't think my post was yelly, was it? I've done the same thing, and ended up with no skin on my hands and a cow with dermititis, and I gave better alternatives (and somebody quoted my post and recommended WISK which is what I was using that was such a bad idea).

Added note: no gate util tomorrow, they had a propane leak at the Del's in Tumwater. EEK! My husband works about a hundred feet away from there!

Stupid stuborn little pony!

Spent 30 minutes just trying to catch the little bugger, then when I finally get him caught, he tries to bite me! Grrr! If he wasnt such a head case I would find him another home! But as is, this little monster would wind up at auction if I tried to rehome him... What a frustrating little freak that he is. I wish he would just realise that nobody here is gonna hurt him. Im pretty sure he had some rough training when he was a colt, very head shy, very touchy and jumpy... It would help if he would retain his training from last season, but he doesnt, so we have to start fresh every year.

And this is the pony that is supposed to be my daughters. I'm not so sure that he will ever be more than a lead line pony.

Sorry I'm frustrated, and I know my rant isnt about chickens... I'm just sick and tired of dumping money, feed, and time into a pony who is almost worthless...

But. I just cant get rid of him, as he is a complete handfull.

Anyone with horse experience wanna give me some tips on dealing with him?

I think everyone has done an oopsie they learned from! best to share that knowledge right? lol
I use oxyclean on my white cochins feetsies, but only on the feather tips (and sometimes on the feather tips on their chest too) but try not to get it on their skin. It IS very drying, my own skin dries out with it. They free range and are always really really dirty, that along with a little dawn on that area seems to whiten them up.

YIKES on that leak! Your husbands job is not in danger is it?

omygoodiness, you wanna know MY secret dumb blonde oopsie??? If ya'll promise not to

me--it was really really dumb. I was putting in the goat fence, dug a big ol' hole for the gate post, pounded T-bars etc etc.. forgetting all the while that we have FREEKIN HUGE GAS LINES RUNNING THROUGH OUR PROPERTY... the gate post missed (if it actually isn't right above it) the main line into the house by INCHES. When I thought to Self, before adding more fence posts, I should call 1-800 where's the gas lines... they marked up the yard all pretty.. and i fainted when I saw how close the gate post was to the gas line mark. duh. My angel kept me from blowing myself up I think.......

there is a picture of it somewhere on my blog--how close it is..

edited to add my own

Is it a bad thing?.......

I live by the Swiss Park gun range and they are really shooting off big stuff and lots of it today........ My ducks do not even care! They are just dinking around the yard as if nothing was different!

Meanwhile.... my little dog is under the blankets shaking!!

Maybe they are dog hunters & not duck hunters!

Sorry for a hijack, everyone, but popping in to remind everyone about the recognition awards.

We want to validate the efforts and contributions of our members who give sooo much. This community is special because of the efforts of its members, and we all want to honor that.

NOW: get to nominating, if you haven't already!

Remember, each BYC member may nominate one member each month for each of the three recognition categories: BYC Friend, BYC Educator, and BYC Spirit. That's three nominations each month, and we want to see more submissions!

Use the Nomination Submission Form to make your suggestions.

Thanks!

When my dad was sinking steel pipe for the foundation of my barn he cut the power lines. Twice.

The leak (from a valve from one of those big spherical propane resevoir tanks)was dealt with, but by calling the propane guy and not the fire department. Pretty sketchy, I think. Especially because that Del's is across 99 from the Olympia Airport.

I'm sitting here in the sweater I wore outside to get the chickens' water, still cold now that I'm in the house. I need to go give them some oatmeal, but that requires another layer of coat, I think, and I'll be like Charlie Brown at full snowsuit rotundity.

I am now a mother of a college student!!!!!!!

My DD has passed the COMPASS exam to get accepted into the Pierce Community College running start program!! She qualified for the full time student program! So starting in the Fall she will attend classes at PCC instead of Bonney Lake High School! She will then get her veterinarian technician certification classes started her senior year of high school!!

She was bouncing off the walls! It was so awesome to watch her skipping like a 3 year old when she came out to the car after her test! I took her right back in and got all the registration stuff filled out and she gets her classes on the 9th!

We had to celebrate on the way back to school! So we got her and her sis smoothies for lunch & a bag of chocolates to pass around!
