Would one soak one's own head in bleach? Might be a good starting question.

Ok I know that some people may not have grown up with animals and may not know you don't use bleach on any thing but clothes, but, I can not believe the comments!!! Really?? Like no one in this world has ever made a mistake?? As a Vet tech I have seen some stuff!! But, you would generally not hear a Vet tell a client anything like that!! Thank God the bird is ok, but WOW! talk about crucifying??? I don't have any white birds to clean, and I have never given a chicken a bath, but, I would imagine using a horse whitening shampoo would work? I know for blood we use Hydrogen peroxide and water, I would imagine as long as the bird didn't ingest anything it would be safe?? Just wondering?

On another note, I know someone out there has a Brinsea Octo 20, I just got mine and I plugged it in to check the temp before I get eggs to hatch It's at 100 right now and I turned it down, should I lift the lid and cool it down? ( there isn't anything in there) And, do you guys weight your eggs on top of candling? And do you candle at day 8 or 10 days? I have an auto turner, but I'm worried about the humidity:fl? I don't have a way to check it? I'm trying some test eggs in a few days, so I'm trying to get it ready to roll. Any experienced advice is always more than welcome!!! I'm sure I will have more questions in a minute!! LOL!

Where are you a vet tech at? I live in your neck of the woods and have taken my dogs to Prosser Animal in the past.

I think somebody like this probably would !!!!

I use chemicals on my birds. I use chemicals on myself.

Many things are fine in certain proportions or dilutions, as others have mentioned chlorine is used in pools, drinking water, etc.. the problem with the poster's actions was 1) the bleach was undiluted and 2) she 'did' first and 'asked' second.

Hey guys... frow I just wanted to check in give you an update....I've been really feeling like crap this week...VERY sore ribs, stretching ligaments, etc. and I have 6 boxes of eggs to box & ship tonight... th

On another note--the clinic called me yesterday and left one of those automated phone calls reminding me of my appointment on tomorrow. However, they said it's at the radiology department here in town. When I spoke with my doctor--she said it was in Spokane at Scared Heart (level 2 with a specialist). So I was confused.

Of course, I got home at 5:20 and they're closed at 5:00pm

So I couldn't call until this morning.

Last night, I was wondering--where is my appointment? If it's in town--I took the entire day off work (so did DH) to travel to/from Spokane (it's a 6 hour round trip)....and they

However, my second thought is that if it's here in town, it must not be that serious?

Or the nurse is wrong?

Sighs...too much to think about! barnie

Of course, I had a throbbing headache by that time!

Okay....here is my (long) update...sorry but I'm still worked up! somad

I called the clinic right at 8am this morning. I got transferred twice…the lady I spoke to said it’s in Omak, tomorrow at 8:30am.

However, when I told her my doctor had told me Spokane and a “level 2” she said she didn’t and wouldn’t know anything about that—so she suggested I call back in a ½ hour or so and speak with my doctor's nurse. She said to also have the nurse call and cancel my appointment tomorrow in Omak if I do have one in Spokane for the same time/day.

What a CLUSTER. I am pretty unimpressed.

I have to go to court at 8:30 and I have 13 cases on so now (this is my job, not an issue of mine!) lol I have to wait until probably 10:30 or so before I can call back.

The nurse called me three times while I was in the court.

Message #1: It’s scheduled for tomorrow in Omak at 10:30am

Message #2: "Please call me as soon as possible. If I don’t answer my voice mail, please have the receptionist page me."

Message #3: Hang up

So I called her back. She started off by saying that the appointment is tomorrow in Omak. But maybe I had amino scheduled for tomorrow in Spokane??!??

I explained that my doctor denied my request for a referral for an amino after the March 30th ultrasound, which showed the two EIF’s. And on April 5th (when I had my next appointment with her) that my doctor said it was a “Level 2 ultrasound with a specialist at Sacred Heart in Spokane.”

The nurse seemed all confused. She then had me hold while she grabbed my file to look at her notes.

She read off everything that had happened and concluded that maybe there was a misunderstanding and the ultrasound should have been in Spokane but was scheduled for Omak on accident? She was not sure. I told her that both myself and my husband had taken days off work for traveling to/from Spokane and how upset we’d been if we’d gone to Spokane and found out that we were supposed to be in OMAK. She was shifty and said she’d need to check with my doctor before she told me anything for sure. And my doctor was on “hospital duty” until the afternoon. So she said she’d call me back at work and let me know.

WHAT A MESS. barnie

So a few hours later, the nurse calls me back and says there was a “misunderstanding” and it SHOULD have been scheduled in Spokane but wasn’t. So they are going to keep my appointment tomorrow in Omak and send the results to a radiologist (like last time) for review. If the ultrasound tomorrow still shows the two EIF’s, they will make me a referral to Spokane for an ultrasound & for a perinatologist but that might be 6-8 weeks away because they are so booked up. This is what they were supposed to do A MONTH AGO! smack

So basically, they screwed up and after the ultrasound tomorrow, there will be MORE waiting, MORE stress and basically even MORE TIME we have to wait until we get an answer one way or another. I’m almost in tears here.

I am hoping we can get our clinic here to Omak send the results to Spokane for review? I think I’d like to that no matter what. This was their mistake that caused all of these issues and it would give me some peace of mind if that happened…otherwise, how I am supposed to enjoy the next 15 weeks?? Or look forward to when the baby gets here? I can’t…I’ll be worrying/wondering/stressed, etc. up until she’s born “normal” and checked out to be “healthy.” Or not. hit

Sounds like you might want to consider changing doctors. You should not have to put up with all of this. Once my scheduled appt with my specialist got mixed up. The receptionst called him right away and he made a special appt for me the next morning before his surgerys started.

I am glad I am not the only who who crams as many in as they can...I was afraid to do too much blocking as it might block air flow or something. But if you have done it and it works....then I am not going to worry so much about it.

Speaking of our Brinseas, I have a confession to make. I wasn't going to tell on myself but... I had today off and it was raining so hard and I was thinking I might be too busy tomorrow to candle, but in truth these are all excuses. I just couldn't wait! Sooo, using my little 104 lumens Lowe's flashlight I took a peek. I actually saw veining, and on at least one of the eggs saw a little embryo swimming. Holy cow that was exciting! On 5 out of the 6 salmon Faverolles there is definite life.

I also have 12 BCMs and of course, (dumb newbie for using those on my first time) I couldn't see a thing, so those are inconclusive. BUT, and here's my big surprise, I have at least 3 fertile eggs from our own LS Whitey Ford who I got from Cowgirlgrace! She had told me that Whitey had been with someone the day I picked her up, so just for fun I set the first 4 eggs we got from her. I pm'd CGG earlier this evening to find out who the possible chicky daddy might be and she said there's a possibility it was a black Orpington. I am SO hoping those hatch so we can find out what a light Sussex/black Orpington cross might look like. Those could be some BIG babies!
Now I just have to sit on my hands so I leave the eggs alone until the 2 week mark and hope I get a better look at what's going on with them. I'm very hesitant to toss any away since my novice eye may miss indication of viability. Just hope nothing explodes on me.
This is SO much fun. I think I'm going to want to do it again.

If you see absolutely NOTHING in them, as it is clear....it is not fertile and you can remove it so everything else has room.
Again, here is a youtube showing...sorry, I learned a lot from these:

This is day 14 for her....I like this one poster. She did have a video candling goose eggs that were not quite as old.

I find them very informative. Need to go and watch more and learn more.

And regarding exploding eggs...what I have been told: smell the egg. If it smells bad/rotten - throw it out before it explodes.

ETA: Because here is the one I liked. candling on day 7:

I gotta mouse problem little applesauces. I have read on BYC some methods to remove. Will try tonight with the live traps/stick traps and then feed the mice to the chickens...try to train them to eat the mice.

Go to your local pet store, if they ave ferets ask for a bag O' poo. Place said bag O' Poo out of the way of chickens, preferably where you see signs of rodents. Sounds gross, I know. But it works wonders. I do this at the barn I work at, have stashed feret poo bags, in my mothers pump house for her well, and under my house as well... See ferets are a natural predator of rodents, so when rodents smell the bag O' poo, they naturally want to get far away from the smell. No it will not stink, so long as it stay dry.
