Question for all the NW people. How many of you use sand in the run? I was going to but my nephew told me it was not good and to use straw in the run. I know he has alot of wind where he is a and think the rain gets into the run. I am planning on a big roof to hopefully keep the run clear of the wet stuff. As we all know up here in the NW it does rain

Just want to say CL is great! And what a chicken set up! And I did have to chuckle a little because I do think the chickens may have more square footage of living space than they do. But what they have is cute! Got two babies from her today and she actually gave me two from the ones she was saving for herself! What a nice thing to do for me. They are closer to the age of my babies so it will be much easier to integrate them. AND I didn't even bring up the fact that tomorrow is my B-day. She just did it out of the goodness of her heart. Ron who also has a heart of gold offered me one of his EE's that I love, but I thought it would be easier to integrate her two with my two. Can't wait to get them all out into their coop!

I can also get out there and rake up most of the poop and use a cat litter scoop/sifter to get the poop out and leave the sand. You can use pea gravel too but depending on how much area it could get expensive.

A good doctor makes all the difference in the world. I had a man as well (just because he happened to be scheduled when I made the appt.), but he was very warm and caring. He was also extremely frank, sometimes too much so. He gave me the bad news right there on the ultrasound table. I did not have anyone with me at the appointment, and I just started trembling and crying and he hugged me strong for a good couple of minutes. Afterwards we went to another room where he took almost an hour to explain everything to me, what needed to be done, what the odds were... He drew it all out too with measurements and numbers, and then later saved all the stitches and ultrasounds of the problem areas, more problems encountered on the way ... and when Olivia was born, he gave them all to me again with explanations and odds and told me to put them in her baby book so that one day I should show them to her and tell her how lucky she is to be alive.

But I have six runs, too and they are pretty big. Mine would mostly be covered due to our snow load and the issues I have with frostbitten feet/combs all winter.

Yeah, he's not my doc--just a different u/s tech than the woman who I have had the last two times. DH didn't think he was cold at all, he just said that guys have a different style than women with communication.
