Maybe that guy in Oregon could sell you a roo. And don't forget, in a couple of months, Craig's list will be full of all kinds of cockerels people will be trying to unload.

Highway 12 in the very easternmost part of Grays Harbor County, about... 40 minutes on any day except a summer Friday from my house? Half way to the Ocean, for me, and a long trip for you. Too bad: we need to have more stuff in places like Waterville or Odessa.

You are familiar with Waterville and Odessa......

Yes..it would be great if there more shows and things happening closer to me. I don't think i will be able to make this show since it is so far away.

I am familiar with Eastern Washington, yes: Mom was born in Prosser; I had a great-aunt who ran a motel in Omak for about fifty years. My Mom's Uncle Dick lived in Waterville, her Aunt Nel lived in Washtucna, the great-aunt I was named for lived in Farmington, which for years you could only get to by driving into and out of Idaho, and I had a cousin who ran the Cenex in Odessa before he died. I've got an old boyfriend who went to school in Bridgeport, and one of my closest friends is from Entiat. My Auntie Mag lived on a apple orchard in Tieton and worked at the grocery store there, cooking breakfast at their cafe counter. Also I went to WSU after I got a BA from Evergreen in 1974 (BA Anth, 1978)- not counting going to 4-H Conference there every June from 1966-1971. I actually like Eastern Washington, to the extent that my husband and I once drove up the gravel road in Moses Coulee just to see what it looked like. There were pink mariposa lilies and a corral with an old recliner next to the headgate, it was wonderful.

On the other hand, my Mom's parents moved to Yelm in 1919 (Mom was born at her grandparent's house, because my grandmother and her sisters were all gathered there to can peaches), and my Dad's great-grandparents came to Union Mills in the 1890s, so this is where I am.

I wish there were poultry shows in those two towns because I'd like an excuse to visit them again! I can go to Elma any old time.

Anybody who can't choose a good ear of corn in the husk should probably buy the frozen kind (I was going to say the naked ears at the produce department, but that's too mean: frozen stuff is usually fresher and less starchy). I was selling corn at 9am that had been picked starting at 5am that morning; we usually ran three loads into the market, picking all day so that none of it was ever more than a couple of hours old. So having some old biddy come strip the ears and stick her manicured pinky nail into a kernal and then drop that ear back into the pile and try again was beyond annoying. By the end of the sweetcorn season she was banned from all the sweet corn vendors' tables.

So yeah, exactly like the guy who goes through the mixed chocolates and pokes holes in them to get only the kind he wants (or the ones who put death-grips on avocados, so if you want to buy them at different stages of ripeness to have them over a few days you find them with black fingermarks down to the core when they're soft).

Oh, those Lemon Millefleurs are PRETTY!

Argh, which reminds me: I've discovered today that the Google Images for chickens are rife with bad things to link to; I'm going to try to remember to write down the addresses that trip my virus security and share them, because we do not want to let our curiousity lead to damaging our coputers, and not everyone lives with a computer security dude like I do.

Wow RFF...this person has no consideration at all. I ordered some orp eggs from an auction on here. She was having family issues and it was the same kind of time line - I must be a more understanding and patient person. I think that being a mom I could sympathize with her and her family issues. Did you let her know that they would be shipped on Wednesday? I am sorry for the bad experience. How do I leave feedback? I don't remember seeing how to do this. I probably should for the person I bought from.

All true; if I'm going to pick up a rooster in Oregon I need to do it this month, though, since that's when I've got a trip with the elder spawn and his girlfriend planned.

Luckily she likes chickens.
