So. I'm sittin' at the Legion the other evening and someone asked how my chickens were doin'. I told 'em they were growing like Kudzu and that I go to Chicken Church every morning.

One of the dear grumpy older women (DGOW) asked what Chicken Church was. Told her that every morning I get my little bag of slaw, jug of fresh water and a hot cup-a-mud and head for the run. I have a folding chair out there and I just open their brooder, freshen their water and watch the morning explode.

My little bouquet of busted bums are about 5 weeks, and it's like watching a bunch of kids get out of school for the summer: Full burst sprints, chest bumps, lateral lifts, circle dances...!

How can you watch all that with your morning coffee and not think that God (Allah, Buddah, Yaweh, who or whatever!) doesn't have a sense of humor and want us to be happy?! It helps me start my day with a laugh no matter what's on the sched, and reminds me that I take things FAAAARRR too seriously. You know. Like church is supposed to do?

Well. DGOW lit into me, said that was just DISrespectful and irreverent, (as she tossed back her fourth or fifth vodka/cran), and I shouldn't call it Church.
I'm thinking of naming one of my Polish after her.

So, just curious? Chicken Church; disrespectful? Considering my first career, I have a skewed view...

I think it's gorgeous, myself (and far better of what a PK of my acquaintance- not the one I'm married to, I have a whole set- called "Sunday worship at St. Mattress"). There are some things so implicitly delightful and happy-making that they can only be holy: to your example I would add kittens chasing flying ants, baby calves or horses or goats racing to nowhere, and Bassett Hounds running.

Tell her that God made chickens just like He made her, and that church would be a better place if the chickens attended instead of her.

Okay, maybe you shouldn't say exactly that.

Culled a bunch of cockerals yesterday & today and have saved 2 splash, a black & a blue Ameraucana cockerals, and a few Cuckoo Marans cockerals, and I DO have 2 pullets (clean legged) Cuckoo Marans pullets for CR.....and alot of OEs & others I am saving for flock additions & replacements.
All coops are being integrated so there are started babies in each coop and it is relentless pecking, so I am on guard & have made "creeps " in all runs for the pecked upon new additions.
So, like Arnold sezs:::
I'll be back...........

Oh, and I am NOT flu sick, just had too much salad I guess.

DH has taken the van & trailer and drove to Hoquiam to drop off Weavagarden's 10 bags of feed cuz he needs the trailer and she only has her Mom's car for trans....she herself does not drive.
So our good deed continues today in delivering her feed.
So I gotta go, anyone need me, Cheryl, CR & T-Hi have my #.
Bye for now & welcome to all the newbies, I know I missed a few...but welcome to you all~~

Oh and Broody, let me know if you need the Wheaten Ameraucana cockeral....

My family lives in two different states. So I don't see them all that much but when I do it is happy time.

LOL I think if our families were more spread out, then we MIGHT get along better. lol but sometimes, two personalities clash, and there just is no way to get along.

I have a cousin living right next door who I rarely talk to, and... four?... I think more within five miles. My sister lives a mile and three eighths from me and we go weeks without talking in the winter: no hostility, just not much to say, bar emergencies or disasters. My parents have been gone for a long time, but when they were alive our house was cousin central (Dad, eldest of six, Mom, eighth of twelve). I like my cousins, and my sister and I are friends and business partners, but when it comes down to it I've decided that I like my privacy and the chace to edit my words that the internet brings.

I dont see it as disrespectful at all. As I call the woods my church. Im of the mindset that, "Why do I have to go to a MAN made building to be with my god/dietys?" A man made structure is not what I need or want to be close to my beliefs, but I tend to be an oddball, and have chased off missionaries by asking them that same question. And I have yet to have someone be able to explain why a building is the only thing that should be called a church...
hu.gif

Sorry if I offend anyone, its just my way, and I understand whats right for me is not right for all.

X2....we all have our "chucrches" and places & ways to reflect, people need to respect everyone else's way, and not insiste that 'their' way, is the only correct way.

When I chose my title 'broodytood' I was thinking about how I always love to have babies around, being mothering and all that. Now I learn about how mean and 'STINKY" they can be! So I hope I don't live up to the latter part!
