That's a shame... I have no experience with chicken shows, and all of 5 weeks exp with chicks

, but MANY years ago (79-80), I trained as a vet tech, and I couldn't believe how brutal the dog shows were! Our instructor made us go to several just so we could understand some of our "special" clients. I've owned papered dogs, and I've owned dogs that couldn't find the paper with a pork chop trail, but I just don't get the backstabbing...

I love them, but have way too many irons in my fire pit right now.
Cucumbers are 12" tall & beginning to curl tendrils on everything in the hot frame..so I gotta plant them, which means I gotta finish the green house.

DGOW... One thing I learned in my first career: EVERYONE has value. Even if they're miserable, you can always use them as a bad example...

Disrespectful - to the chicks!

Since churches are so often filled with joyless people like her, I think you are best off to stick with your little friends. More of the Universes' great humor there than most churches, for sure.

Hey, I just went to the Chicken Auction and boy, am I MAD!

I was selling a real nice black marans roo I had, and I noted on the paper that he was "purebred". The snot nosed kid that pulls the chickens out of the coops threw a tantrum right on the spot, yelling "HOLD EVERYTHING! THATS NOT A MARANS!" stating that it did not "have feathered legs". Now, while this is not my breed, I happened to have sat through a very interesting lecture on the marans at the recent APA mini-national, the day after they were accepted by the APA, and learned that very many marans in this country don't have feathered legs, but that its nota big deal, as if you want to show you can breed into the feathered legged kind and quickly breed in the feather leg gene.

Well, this put a huge damper on everyone (he did this right at the beginning of bidding) and made me look like a freaking liar! The bird only sold for $12 when RIR hens were going for $17!!!!! I yelled at the guy that 1/2 the population of marans in the US don't have feathered legs but the damage was done. Man, I was steamed. Needless to say, I won't be going back there and will go to the other auction (which isn't as good for sellers) from now on. Too bad, as most of the people there are nice, but this carrot top has been a royal pain in my butt everytime i go there (non stop talking up his birds and how much he knows) and this was the last straw!!!!

ANyway, just needed to vent. I really enjoy going to these auctions and its a bummer that this twerp ruined it for me. (I don't get mad easy at all, but when I do, it sticks).

OK,going out to play with my chickens and cool down!

I'm mad because I was told the Chicken Auction was no more, kaput, gone with the wind et'c.

Pfui. I would have gone, too.

I'm also mad on your part that you got sideswiped by an ignorant auction worker: we do not want those things, ever.

French marans have feathered legs. English marans do not. There is no American standard yet.
