I am very happy for those of you who are pregnant tho!! I have my twins. I'm good!

Chickielady is the one who swore that I was! (Especially after I dipped my smoked oysters in a onion/garlic mustard!!)

I still have a shoe box with ribbons from showing with my mom when I was 4. My girls have decorated their horse theme room with them.
I lost my mom when I was 13. The Horse shows were one thing we enjoyed doing together so I cherish the ribbons!
Your daughter will cherish these memories she has of your time together!
Happy Mothers Day everybody!

It's time to start thinking about summer fairs!! The Puyallup Fair premium book is out and it's not too soon to start thinking about showing even if you've never done it before- especially if you have kids or- as you'll see- serama. There are 2 poultry shows at the Puyallup Fair. The first weekend is the Open show and the last is the junior show. Our 4H club generally enters both. If you are near Spanaway and your kids have been wanting to try 4H, we could still get you into the Spanaway Squawkers- the world's laziest 4H club. Our next meeting is May 28. Entries close Aug 30 for the open show, so you have plenty of time. Generally, birds hatched before April 1will be old enough to compete, though we often squeeze in a few April babies. Entries are $2.50 per bird and each exhibitor entering a bird will get 3 free fair tickets. You may want to enter this show under multiple family members if you need more tickets. This show birds only are judged- not the kids- so you generally enter your best. Birds check in Wed Sep 7 and out Sun Sep 11. The fair feeds and waters the birds in between and there is no time investment on your part. Birds are judged on Saturday. This year ONLY there is a table top Serama show at 8:00 pm Friday night. There are cool trophies and seramas are shown as they are meant to be shown on a table top in front of the judge. This is in addition to the show Saturday and is for seramas only. There is a double entry fee for these birds so they will be $5 a bird. We are hoping to enter all of our showable serama in this show. It will be a one time thing and very fun. Seramas are judged on tameness and character- not just beauty- so put some time into your little friends.
The second show is the Junior show. Entries are free for up to 25 birds per 4Her and 3 birds per primary child (5-8.) Each exhibitor receives 4 free tickets for entering birds. Birds check in Thursday morning Sep 22 and check out Sunday pm Sep 25. All kids are required to do a 2 hour shift of birdsmanship during the show. We sign up for times when we send in our entries. Saturday Sep 24 is the big day when the kids show their birds in Fitting and Showing. We come early to clean up our birds. There are also contests in judging eggs or carcasses or in poultry trivia and kids can enter any poultry related posters, artwork or photos. The 4H uniform is a long sleeved white shirt and black pants. Feel free to contact me for more information.
