No way - you just went into lockdown last night? I don't hear anything here. It's day 19. Maybe I'd better start doing one of your dances... Nope, just went and checked and no chirps. Okay 4312, I for sure need to see one of your hatch dances now.

Not gonna happen....not in this life time at least.....

Old fat women should not "dance"...it scares the children.

ETA: I was meaning no video of ME dancing...and no one would get to see THIS old fat woman dancing. Having typed that last night doped on Nyquil and now reading it this morning it kinda sounds bad. And just to harrass my DH I did do the "chicken dance" around the incubator last night. But again....No children were harmed (or saw) in the action of this dance. DH now needs therapy...but hey, he always has.

PETA does a whole lot of very exploitative female nudity, yes.

Temple Grandin is my hero. Emmy Award Winning Movie, Wikipedia article, livestock handling site. There's other stuff too, an autism website, several memoirs, a part of Oliver Sack's book An Anthropologist From Mars. For the purposes of this conversation she's done work in the design of livestock handling and holding facilities which has made them less physically and emotionally dangerous for both animals and people, and toughed out the social environment to get her inovations accepted as a women in a very male industry and as a person with a serious neurological difference- or, more farely two of them, because being in the top .001% of the population in IQ (my estimate, not something she brags on like Marilyn Vos Savant) is rarer than being austistic.

When she was doing radio interviews for her book Thinking in Pictures I heard her describe the way animals saw chutes over and over; I made a couple of small modifications to the corral here and cut about 3/4 of the time for worming and vaccinating spring and fall.

When my son was diagnosed with high functioning autism, his doctor loaned me some of her books to read to show what is possible for the future of someone with high functioning autism. DS was in a montessori Kindergarten where they get to choose what they want to work on, and he chose math. He was doing division! Then he went to the public schools for 1st on and they told me he was not very smart; he can't even ad 7+2! (when he was 4 he noticed temperature signs that would show Farenhiet and Celsius, wanted to know what the C & F stood for and how to convert from one to the other. We told him the formula and at 4 he could figure it out quicker than me and would shout out the other whenever he saw a temperature). The school kept him in every recess because he fidgets too much! I took him to the UW autism center where he was diagnosed, and they told me his IQ is likely 2 standard deviations above normal, and they requested the school district do IQ testing. Initially the school balked, so the Dr. kept adding more and more tests to the list. The school psychiatrist flipped to the back of the 6 page diagnosis, read the conclusion and told me that Alex is not autistic, he does not qualify for an IEP and the tests are not going to tell them anything they don't already know, he just is slow! I was

http://bestsmileys.com/angry2/1.gif By law they HAD to do the tests, so they eventually did and were flabbergasted. He had the highest scores they had ever seen in the district. Most of the tests, especially the analytical ones, he scored about 150! He had a perfect score on the visual/spacial tests. His social skills, however, scored in the 60's. (100 being "normal" for each of the tests) He also has an extremely difficult time writing .... he is so slow, though he can tell you everything that he wants to write. Elementary school was such a struggle. Teachers wouldn't credit him for his math because he NEVER shows his work, and many teachers did not believe the diagnosis and treated us like we were trying to work the system. Middle school, thankfully, has been great. Instead of treaing him like an idiot, they put him in advanced placement for math and science and he gets an aid to take dictation for important assignments that can't come home like tests. He is in remedial language arts because of his writing difficulties. He does the same type of assignments as the other students do, but instead of being from remedial readers, he is allowed to choose his own books and topics, so he'' read Stephan Hawking or something from National Geographic rather than the easy readers that come with the class. Unfortunately, even though high functioning autistics are very smart, most do not end up with successful careers like Temple Grandin. Most end up unemployed because they do very poorly in job interviews since they can't handle the social interactions.

It just bothers me that one-person's normal has to be graphed so that EVERYONE's normal is has to be just like it. Not fair.

Im warn out, been dealing with horse stuff all week, and family... My weekend is over now and Im ready to sleep.
th.gif
I am getting paid to sell my Step father my clients horse. Never been a horse broker before. Didnt think it would be so incredibly draining. Have chicks hatching, one dogs going nutts over all the peeping, my chicks are all being integrated into one big flock. Tomorrow I put up more fencing, tear down the old chicken run, and put it back up around the new coop...

And why oh why is it, that every time I have a horse here that I can ride, the weather turns to crud?

Im thinking maby its time to pack up and head south east. The rain here was insane today, it didnt stop until 6PM. The creek that runs along the easment flooded over its bank, now we have a 3" deep trench running down the easment. Time to bring in more crushed rock and fill in the trench. I hate it when that creek moves from its normal path, it makes SUCH a mess.

Ok Ive given my update. Now unfortunately, I am tired, and gonna hit the hay.

G'night, I have another busy day ahead of me, rain or shine. Im hoping for sun, or at least less rain.

TouchO'Lass :

Okay, just saw on my morning news how an "Animal Ethics" group thinks our dogs, cats, etc should not be called "pets" as this term is durogatory...they should be called "Companian animals" and "wildlife" should be referred to as "free range animals", etc, etc, etc. They say that calling them "pets" could influence how other people "treat" them.

DH just asked: "What next?! We can't call them Afghans, German Shepherds, Black Labs, Calico's or Tabby's...!!??"

duc.gif

Okay. One more thing and then I REALLY have to get busy. I just realized I was durogatory to last nites meal. I thought it was shrimp and pasta.

But, SHRIMP would be, what, dimension-challenged shellfish?!

Don't these people have anything better to do?

Gee, I thought it was an endearment when Mr. H calls me "Pet". I'll make him stop at once.

Yes, you should...this could be mis-construded as derogatory..... LOL.

My silky is a crabby little monster, but she lays every day. But keep in mind my silky is a freak, and doesnt like to hold to standerds, everyone tells me how friendl silkys are, but not mine. She's crazy, and the exception to the rule. But she gives me LOTS of tiny little eggs! Plus alot of entertainment! She cracks me up, the way she moves, and every time I see her run I laugh.

Sorry Im tired and rambling.

Wanna see something absolutely hysterical running ?
Toss some bread far from a Cochin, and watch the pointed-toed ballerinas run..it is soo funny!!
Like a hippo in toe shoes, they hop real high with each step!!

very funny. Gotta love it. I do similar with my Cochin bantam.

That is a wonderful birthday gift for your daughter! I'm guessing she'll get to name that chick for sure. Any other pips yet or is that one an early bird? I'm going to go improvise a dance in front of my gator right now. I'm starting to worry.

ETA: that would be bator, not gator. I don't have the latter.

I am sure this baby is just early...but there are 3 other pips. Can't wait to see what morning brings. As for now....I am off to bed. I'm tired.
