Nice work on the coops, broody! Are those the big shipping crates? Wow! They are huge! Are you going to make 3 roofs or one big one?

We got some donated metal roofing so it will be 1 big one at least 4 now.

Those are the C list crates we got for 50$ plus the gas to haul them down here. They are 8x7x5 with hinged double doors! Nice 1/2 inch plywood, 2x4 and 1x4 framing. Hope they hold up to chicken traffic well!

I put a sheet of linoleum on the bottom of mine so they clean out easily; glad I did it, so much easier than scraping poop off wood. I'm going to do the poop boards next. Don't use linoleum tiles, they will peel up from the corners.

Yep, that's what everyone has suggested so I'm going down to the remnant place in town to see what I can find.

DD returned home from a very successful first year at WSU a couple of weeks ago. She's had her University Achievement Award renewed ($2000) for next year because her grades placed her on President's Honor Roll. She'll be going to summer school at TCC, interning at my Dad's Law Firm and is presently sending resume's ALL over town looking for a paying job, hopefully something related her to major to apply toward the 1000 paid hours she needs to graduate.
However, I had planned my first hatch so she had some "play time" before her schedule fills up and she is taking full advantage. She's been feeding the chicks out of her hand and they're getting so comfortable with her that they're jumping up in her hand now. It's adorable. I'm going to have to try for a picture. Yesterday I did have a gf come and take some nice pics of the chicks, but I'm waiting til she sends them to me.

I'm afraid my one and only layer has gone broody. Whitey, the light sussex, has her fluffy butt planted firmly in the nest box and has a glazed look in her eye. I tried to reach under her and she gave me a warning peck. Gotta figure what to do with her.

Wanted to share with you guys, DD and I were chatting the other night about what we would name our coop. We tossed ideas back and forth for a few minutes. Then she asked if we were going to have any roosters and I said no, not in the city. She replied, "Oh, too bad. Cuz I thought maybe we could call it "The Cock Pit".

I love that girl.

That is awful!!!!
Why could you not drop off the Harp at the gym backdoor and then go park?

I'm hoping he was tossing beer or used the hose to fill the pool and just happened to be standing with his back arched, grabbing himself. I did not see a hose, garden or otherwise, but his hand was there, and the guys with him were laughing. Makes me want to vomit when I think of it. I was disgusted when I first saw them because here they were so crude and drunk, and they had a little 2 year old boy with them! I was just thinking someone ought to call just for the boys safety, drunk guys can't keep a 2 year old safe around water, but just then a woman ran from the house and grabbed the little boy and took him inside with her.

I had dropped the harp off in the morning, but when we went to leave, the parking lot was full, parents had parked their cars in the drop-off zone, and the bus drop-off had fire trucks in it where they were doing bicycle safety demos with the kids, otherwise I would have had Olivia wait at the curb with the harp which is what I usually do. The event was still going on for another hour. (Summer fair - the place is filled with face painters and bake sales, vendors advertising summer camps, dance lessons, sports teams, summer school, books, teachers handing out summer workbooks, sporting equipment ... the busiest event the school puts on) By the time we'd gotten somewhere were I could leave Olivia and the harp, we only had a block left to take it to the car. Compared to when she has recitals in Downtown Seattle, it was nothing, but then I have Don haul the harp. I was tired from gardening all day and then moving pianos.

I'm having to let go of my overwhelming perfectionism in re photography right now; I'm using a point-and-shoot Lumix that has no close-up viewfinder and so I can't frame precisely. The last photo is a violation of all I hold good and dear as a photographer but does give a good idea of the layout of the run, which owes a lot from years of observation of zoo design and the usual stumpfarmer ad hoc scrounged materials.

Can't this be reported? This is disgusting and awful. I would think that "pissing" toward/ON you could classify as assault. OMG!!!!!

I have so many things I want to say, regardding how Ogress was treated...but can't think straight right now....just got through bashing my head on a low 2x4, whilst trying to get my chicken carriers out. It hurts.

Ogress, be careful. People who have this low of IQ and and act this way, especially when they run in packs, their behavior only gets worse. I hope you do not have to go past them often.

hate to say it but, they would probably lock me up cause I would have said something!!!
