On the good news end of things, no matter how trivial: Maggie laid today's egg in the nest box, YAHOO!

It was hard enough losing my mother last week. I can't begin to imagine how much it hurts to lose a child! I can't tell you how sorry I am.

Thank you CL I only have two other does due one next month and than one in July..

Had lots of chicks hatch yesterday, would have rather had the doeling...

So sorry about the kids Cheri. You deserve to have a home full of happy, healthy little goats and chickies. It shouldn't be an either/or choice for you. Take care of those little chicks. They need a good mama like you too.

So to add to all the sad news, I am culling all the babies today. They have all started to show signs of something, not sure what, but if it is CRD, then I can't risk passing it to other chickens when I get home to Idaho. 4 of them are having eye closed problems and running noses. Its not going to be a good day, and my daughter is going to be very distressed, but I am at a loss of what to do.

Way too cute! That is an excellent hatch rate! I don't know how to cull - I read posts with gasses and I wonder of that is painful to the lungs and eyes. Seems breaking a neck is quicker and more humane, though I doubt I could do it.

Edited to add:
Oh, and that top pic looks lie a bucnch of kids crammed into the back window of a school bus!

I know huh??? They are just too cute!! Well I did have to put two down, they just weren't thriving and I have these plus the group from Tamara coming so, I needed to make the decision to keep the healthiest!! I'm sure it won't be the last!! Check this out!! My BF who didn't really have anything to do with the incubation and in fact kind of gave me a hard time about, calls me today from work and starts talking about getting on here and finding more eggs to hatch!!! lol

Course he is still in the dark about the Blrws and splits I'm getting from T but, he starts talking about hatching year round and having plenty in the freezer.....blah blah blah!!!
REALLY????

He has NO idea what this was like and until I can get a good set of hygrometers and get some babies raised, and my hatchery chicks sold or in the freezer I'm holding off just a little!! I loved the miracle of life and it was very cool to witness, but, I have got to have a better set up in a room where the incubator isn't giving me fits!! lol

He's a funny boy!!!!
