I'm looking forward to a relaxing summer.

VelvettFog Have ya been in the Yakima area a long time? I both of my parents went to school in Naches. I was born in Yakima but we moved when I was very young. My grand parents lived in Naches and Gleed.

Well, I made it home. I met ReiMiraa and Jbear today. Hello again ladies. So fun.

Jbear: The babies are doing good. The DH thinks that they are just the cutest thing. I stopped at costco and bought a watermelon for them for the ride home. All 3 did well. They are in their own little coop and run and are all doing great.

Rei: Thank you for the tour and the eggs.

We got home quite some time ago, but I had to get birds settled and then found out my computer had a virus on it....so DH had to fix this.

Very fun meeting you two today.

Dave: the pain in this post is incredible. I ball everytime I read it. But what a beautiful sentiment to your daughter. I read it to my DH. He and I talked on how your words put the little things into perspective. I am crying now as I type this. May you find peace in your heart. Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your daughter.

God bless you.

that is because th broody realizes how time sucking a kid or two is/are....you pull out a worm out of the ground - you tell yourself how wonderful thisis going to be....how should I eat it? Slow and slurpy or bit into small pieces? Then all of a sudden it is grabbed from your beak and your two teen age cockerels are playing tug-a-war with it and teasing their youngest pullet sister. My broody finally had enough at 6 weeks....she walked out of the juvenile pen, looked up at me (right in the eye)....walked over to the big girl pen, looked up at me again (and I swear)....she tells me... FOR GOD SAKE .... OPEN THE BLOODY THING....I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!

your take on it was just too funny!

What is so funny is that Hannah has been the bestest of mommas. But she had started to peck the big babies - so I knew she was getting ready to call it quits. . And she did give me the sideways head stink eye, the other morning when I brought in the fresh water for them. She look cocked headed at me, I got the hint...I opened the gate to the juvenile pen. She just marched out. I swear she took her wings and pulled up her bloomers (she is a cochin bantam) as she stomped out. She followed the fence line around to the gate to the layer run, and again (no joking) gave me the cocked-head stink-eye look. I opened the gate to the layer run and she sauntered in...daring ANYONE in the run to challenge her. She was home - watch out.

What a day!

I have such a hard time sleeping with a hatch going. Silly, I know, but that's just me. So after little sleep last night, church this morning, lunch with friends and more church in the evening, I AM WHOOOPED!
I ended up with 11 out of 12. The one that didn't hatch must have quit before lockdown cause the egg was just sloshing liquid inside.
So, I ended up with 4 blacks, 5 blues and 2 lavs.
Very happy with that! Now, as soon as they are sexed, I can figure out which of Clovers and which of Pips&peeps to keep and who to sell. Reducing my numbers will make DH happy! I think my chicken math is worrying him!

We are now at 60! YIKES! I did assure him that I am just looking to keep trios and quads but I don't think he believes me 100%.
Anyway, next week, one more hatch and then I'm done.(for a while) Shhh, don't tell my DH I said that!

OK I hope that some of the apple growers see this and can help. I have an apple tree that is doing some very strange stuff. See it was all fine up until a few years ago and now one year ONLY the north side will bloom and fruit. Then the next year only the south side will bloom and fruit. Any ideas what is going on. the apples are the same and in the past the entire tree would bloom and fruit every year.

Still reading, still learning, as we will always!

I've searched and read some of the posts on wing clipping .. some people say they do, some don't, no one really says how it is done, if it needs to be done at all.
