I went out to check the chickens at 7 or so and the Hamburgs were Not Happy: the wind had picked up and I have yet to find a way to block the wind from their roost. I finally gave up looking for anything permanent and put a garbage bag between the two layers of wire and stuck it together with carabiners. I have plans drawn for an actual coop for them, but can't buy materials until Friday at the soonest. I'd grouch about not expecting to have to deal with this kind of weather this late in the year, but it'd be a fib: I spent two weeks in June three years in a row at what was called Junior High Show-how or "Primitive camp" (lash your own privy! It's fun!) and probably had four days of dry weather the whole time. Maggie jumped up on the roost to inspect my work when I finished, and they're snuggled up there out of the wind now.
Hope I'm healthier tomorrow and can finish the Wyandotte coop so I can do a better job of weather protection for the Hamburgs. I suppose when I get everything weatherized it'll decide it's time to be summer.
