Is this your bird with the cream color pus coming out the vent?
Yes, but it's not pus...I think it's poop. There is no odor and pus/infection usually has a very distinct odor. Her butt smells like...well...a chicken's poopy butt. LOL
I'm wondering if she has coccoidosis as a result of respiratory distress. The creamy colored poo did not start until a few hours after she was coughing/rattling.
The thing that's throwing me off is that neither of the two sick girls have discharge from their eyes or nose. Isn't that a distinct characteristic with IB and a lot of other things?
Also, checked the 4 hens still in the coop and they are fine, and THANKFULLY mama and all 10 chicks in the shop look well too. I did have to move 2 chicks from the brooder inside because they were sneezing and had subtle crackles in their chests...but I'm not sure if antibiotic is the best route to go with them yet.
It's just been a mess all around! We've never dealt with sickness before and then BAM, it seems like everyone's sick! I don't think I'll be adding new chicks to the flock anymore unless I hatch them myself.
and if the birds are on antibiotics, or milk products, they can develope this kind of runny poop.
I no longer feed milk products to my birds due to this kind of sticky, runny poop, they do not seem to digest milk products well.
That's just my way, others may feel differently.
Birds have a gizzard and crop, and milk ferments, and they have no stomach or acid to break down milk products.
Hope this helps.
There is a vet who sees chickens in Naselle, but far from you~~
We started the antibiotic that day, but it had only been in there with them for a few hours and no one had noticed them drinking it. They do not receive dairy products, but I was going to get some plain yogurt for probiotic purposes.
