They don't make the vaccine in smaller dose bottles only the 1000. And, you cannot freeze the vaccine, it will destroy it. It is very fragile and that is why it only lasts an hour.​

There's some bovine vaccine (the clostridiuum sorts, for instance) that can't be stored after opening; it sounds from the number of injections the Mareks vaccine is for that they're packing for commercial hatcheries and don't care about the small user. It's also possible, though that there's a minimum amount of the vaccine that can be measured reliably, and reducing the size sold would cause problems with measuring and dosage.

yea, but vaccine companys can fix that, they do it all the time, it just takes a market big enough to support the effort, if that makes sense?? The vaccine company probably makes it's most money commercially and that's the market they court. So yea I agree they don't care for sure!!!

Pettec : Sheesh! 1000 vaccines in an hour!?!?!? We only did that with the 'gun' during flu season, and that was premixed!! I'd really like to see that in action to not be skeptical... I like the idea about sterilely dividing the dry to minimize waste/cost. gees, louise that's a lot! Most my experience is with people: Yellow fever is only good for an hour, and it comes in doses of 10 for that very reason.

The answer is NO!! I told my BF who is also a chief and he thought the same thing!! I said it's a dang good thing I don't work there, I wouldn't care if she had been there longer, I'd have said something and probably not had a job!! Oh, yea, that's the "kinder gentler Navy" what ever!!! NOT where I come from!! they weren't kind and gentle to me!! LOL
Oh I think you just have to be ready with the equipment and syringes ect and move quietly and quickly and it probably won't be bad. I'd much rather give SQ the IM!!!​

Right behind them where the scraggle trees start is the end of our prop and goes up a hill where they have at least 2 dens that I've watched in the past.

I also thought they could belong to some of the orchard workers, because we get new uncollared, intact animals here every year about this time, but they're normally more friendly. they dont resemble basenjis either, basenjis come in black and tan and red and white as well as brindle. they do resemble shepherd mixes. the gray one appears to be sable. regardless of what they are they need to be caught or killed. Coyotes usually will not take on large livestock, you said there were Llamas on the property? strange they did not stomp them into oblivion. Glad your dogs are off the hook!

where I come from it's free range and we can shoot if we feel they are threatening livestock!! and yea the llamas must have been asleep???

ahh, I've been taught never to freeze vaccine?? but yea, hello!!! it makes sense to pull that many syringes up I guess I'll get on line and order a box of small syringes like I think you can get 0.5 ml cause it only take 0.2 per bird, and yea, I'm trying to figure it out before I make a move, thank you!!! !

I was going to add tho, that I was going to refridgerate that, not freeze it, but, after reading more posts, probably not.

oh I was going to report that I calibrated my Hygrometers last night, it is RIDICULOUS!! how far off they are!!!! So the fluker that I used with my 1st batch of hatching eggs was off by 43%!!!! and I went and bought a Radio shack hygrometer yesterday and it was 19 % off!! How can they sell stuff that's supposed to be accurate and then it be THAT far off!!???? Anyway, got it done and it's ready for the next batch yeee hawww!!!

That was a very interesting article. I'm still not sure what I should do. I'd like to find a "vaccinating party", since I only have 6 chicks I've hatched myself and may only have a dozen more this year. I'll only be keeping a few of the birds I hatch to add to my tiny backyard flock. My flock will never have more than 10 adult birds. I've never given any vaccinations and the thought of trying to vaccinate myself makes me very nervous. I know of one vet in town who will see poultry. I'm wondering if there's a possibility he would vaccinate? I'm not as concerned about the cost of 1000 doses of the vaccine for 18 chicks as I am about the process of doing myself when I've never even witnessed it being done. I don't want to hurt one of the chicks, but I don't want to risk losing anyone either.

What is the possibility of my finding someone locally who would be willing to vaccinate for me for a fee?

I just had people over and did a batch Saturday- will probably do it again in 3-4 weeks. If anyone in the Tacoma area is interested, you can contact me and come to one of my vaccine parties.

I dont know how well this picture turned out, and if you can see the roundpen, but this is what I have been doing this past week. Clearing my property and spent 3 days building this! Im so excited to have it completed! Just need one more post, rails, and the gait put up!

We will be clearing another 104' past the wheelbarrow! All blackberries and Black honey Locust tree starts! Nasty stuff with big narly thorns. All the alder trees will be left standing, and a 6' perimeter of black berries around the edge of my property will be left behind.

Lots of black berries left to clear.

Should have a small trac hoe out here in the next week, if the weather permits the work... Then the shed rowe will be built for the horses...
