We can hear them some times here. Not real loud just kind of muffled in the distance I think somebody said it was the howitzers (sp)

Some howitzers, more of the bigger mobile mortars: they were down south of me on Weir Prairie- maybe 4th Striker Brigade, they've been home long enough to be ready for more training. When I was a kid it was the huge barrage guns that fired from the North Fort and impacted across the river from Yelm on Nisqually Prairie; knocked the dishes out of the cupboard if you didn't push them all the way to the back of the shelves.

I'm right under the flight path for airbourne training: the new chopper pilots come over below their assigned altitude way too often for my taste.

at least the C-17s stay up at reasonable altitude, not like the C-141s who used to drag over our runway in diamond formation, about 200 feet up; darn wing vortices knocked me completely off my feet

Yup, you're just south and across the river from the end of Nisqually Prairie. It sounded like mobile stuff the other night, though.

The worst unfunny lately was when somebody got their elevation and throw reversed and dropped a mortar shell in the middle of 510 right next to the Nisqually Tribe's fireworks booths, on the third of July- before the Bonneville mainline was moved. Really lucky nobody got hurt that time.

At least nobody's decided to do a below-tree-top-level speed run with their Apache above the road a hundred feet from my house (and slightly below it). That was not my favorite part of living next door to the Army.

I was going to show you a photo of one of my cows who thinks C-17s are going to bring her hay from the sky, but Photobucket is not cooperating.
