That's ok CL, he's beautiful and I would love to see pics of the parent birds. I love genealogy!
lol.png

Right now he's in a kid lap being hand feed and watered. It's a hard life for a bird!

Yeeeeah, CL, you better go get him back. He sounds abused!

HI EEEEEEEEEEEENIE!!!!!

Chicken lady is feeeeeeelllllliin' good tonight.

One or two sips and I was so tired.......................eggz-hausticaided.
I woke up at 4 and of course it was getting quite light & birds want OUT!
Roosters crowing...
and I went right back to sleep & woke up again at 6, and then went right out to coop out.
Now I have to finish unloading feed bags, fill each coop's feed bin, and fill the broiler feed bin & mix the ground corn into it.
Meaties arrive Tuesday.
We had a mess of chicks hatch last night...and set another 34 or 35 eggs in another incubator.
It is dead still, mellow-cool and damp here...and the no-see-ums are clouded all over everywhere, millions of them!
DH & I sprayed ourselves, even the hair as the nasty biters walk through your hair & bite ya on the noggin.
I hate these bugs!

They will never go "away" unless we dry out.

Need dry & breezy.
They are poor flyers, so a bit of a breeze and they duck in the mud.
Right now they are so thick everywhere that you cannot walk around with your mouth open.

I talked to my vet yesterday and he did say that if they aren't vaccinated right after hatch then they can get exposed and then the vaccine isn't worth anything. But that may just be in big hatcheries. Most big hatcheries have a vaccine machine that vaccinates them in the egg before hatch. It was pretty amazing technology he was showing me. He helped design it. Talk about being able to vaccinate a lot of birds all at once!

Only the females bite, and they have teeth, not a long skinny needle nose like a mosquito, so they itch worse.
And the females must have a blood meal to lay their hundreds of eggs..so stop feeding them!
They LOVE compost, so my green house is full of them, and I have tried to dry it out in there as they die quickly if the soil dries the slightest bit..but it is raining so hard here right now that I cannot hear the TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I save up several hatches before I vaccinate, and they are all indoors in brooder pens, and some as old as 1 mo...then I vaccinate and let the older ones outside.
Works great.
