?? how is rat poison ever safe for pets? where did you get that info? can you share the data that shows its safe for pets?

No, Red, you are correct, rat and mouse bait is NEVER safe for pets. Let me tell you as an emergency room veterinary technician, there is no such thing as a rat, mouse, gopher, slug, snail or mole bait that is safe for pets, even if it is labeled as such.

The rat and mouse baits that make the rodents bleed to death internally does the same thing to dogs and cats. It doesn't matter if they are "bruised" or not from crawling through small spaces, it will make them spontaneously bleed internally and they will die if not treated early enough.

The other type of rat and mouse bait (active ingredient is bromethalin) causes neurologic symptoms and does not affect clotting ability. Once a pet shows neuro symptoms from ingesting this type of rat bait there is nothing that can be done for them, it is not reversible like the anticoagulant type can be.

While we're on the subject, the slug bait that says "safe for pets" ISN'T. I don't know how many dogs our ER clinic has treated for ingesting that type of slug bait...

DH puts "rat candy" in our vechicles, and sometimes we find a dead one..and they always have their innerds squirting out their bum, and have bleed to death INTERNALLY, in their intestines and lungs.
The smallest capillaries bleed first, like the lungs.
It is not safe for us, pets or the hawks & owls that can catch & eat these slow & dying rodents and get sick themselves, or even feed bits of the infected rat/mouse meat to their chicks.
I want no more rat candy here !
I especially hate when they get sick from it & die in the defroster in the car, or under the coop or house & stink to high heaven and you cannot find the bodies to dispose of them.

YES YES YES !!!!! I THINK that is very close to what I am looking for

Now we have to disconnect the cable, so no more internet for a while....
th.gif

For the last 2 days we have moved the washing machine shed, power lines & all the junk & lumber out of the way that we thought were not in the way.
The contractors have been here several times & so far just walked around looking..and I guess they have to do the metal detector thing to look for buried treasure.
We never know when they will show up, they are not too good at calling, and they all live close by.
The main contractor is just down the street.
I guess tomorrow they bring the heavy equipment & need a spot ot pile the dirt they will have to save to backfill the foundation after it is done, and they want my compost pile area which is down the hill & has the 2 boats parked there.
So now we have to find a compost spot & move 2 boats
th.gif

This spot is 300 yards away from the building site
th.gif

We had no idea they were going to need 3 acres room so we have to keep moving stuff.
The septic pipe has to be located, marked, dug up & capped and then run under the foundation into the center of the foundation area before the forms are set, so have to do that now............
th.gif

We are missing a family bar-be-cue and all sorts of fun stuff this week end too!!!
OK, I guess I will close & grab my shovel & go dig septic pipes up...
Before I go, Broody the bird IS rumpless, and most definetely an OE with the featherd shanks from the Blue Copper Marans,
anyone need me, tell CR or T-Hi that have my phone #...
No more internet cable for a while

The Missing Man: As you enter almost any military club, you will see a table that seems to be set for diners, yet is never occupied...

The table is round -- to show our everlasting concern for our missing men.

The tablecloth is white -- symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to duty.

The single red rose, displayed in a vase, reminds us of the blood shed by our loved ones, in dignity and courage.

A slice of lemon on a bread plate is to remind us of the bitter fate of those who volunteered to protect this great country.

A pinch of salt on that plate symbolizes the tears shed by their families who forever grieve.

A Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.

The glass is inverted -- for they are unable to be with us to share this days celebration.

The chairs are empty. For the ones who will never return.

I raise a glass to Bob Dignon, who took my Dad's watch in the engine room that night in 1942. Who enlisted with me Da', cuz they were childhood buds. Who died that night in the Solomon Islands. So my Dad didn't.

Slai'nte!

CL is experiencing one of the horrors of home construction: contractors expand to fill the space available. Do you think they'd be so greedy if you were on a city lot? No, of course not: they'd plan more carefully, use smaller equipment, and only bring the amount of drainfield rock they need, for instance. My uncle and cousin have made careers on doing things the thoughtful, careful ways but the world is full of builders who don't want to do any math they can get away with avoiding.
