x2, it's never 'just a...'

X3... Even a chicken can worm their way into your heart! Sorry!

Well, I now have three chickens laying eggs- Sylvia gave me a ludicrously small mottled-brown egg today, but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it soon. Suzzy, in celebration, decided to put her egg as far from the door as she could get it, little knowing that I would see such shenanagins as a challenge to my plastic-pop-bottle-and-duct-tape invention skills (picture to follow). Building the long-handled egg extractor gave me a warm fuzzy feeling about my visualization and construction skills, which lasted until I started thinking about how I'm going to rig a nest box that won't compromise the already much too small space in the chicken tractor.

*sigh*

Oh, well, life is a sort of obstacle course, isn't it?

MAN!!! I can't catch a break! I get the lady with the pitbull to keep her dog inside, but now I have some neighbors ugly white poodle/mutt chasing and attacking my chickens on my F'ing property.

And it got the same one that got attacked by the pitbull. Poor girl. She is ok because the dog was small and I caught her before the dog could do too much damage. But geez!!! This guy couldn't control his dog with voice command either. I told him that I talked with animal control and I have a right to protect my animals on my property and if he couldn't control his dog to keep it on a leash. I was fairly nice but very direct. I guess I won't be able to let my girls free range much. They love it sooo much. But now I am pretty sure that my Orpington won't ever be the same calm friendly girl she once was. She is pretty jumpy from the last attack. Now this! I am more than a little peeved

that I can't shoot a gun in this area. But tomorrow I am going to go get my air tank filled and get my paintball gun out and leave it by the door. Thanks for letting me rant. It helps.

Yeah for the first eggy!!! I have my older trio of BLRW and then two pullets I hatched out last fall in the BLRW breeding pen. I just looked up how old the two BLRW pullets are, they will be 29 weeks this weekend and I haven't seen my first egg yet from them! Getting impatient with them............
