I have to go back to work but stopped in.
I am trying (and failing) to resize pics I send in e-mails, protested by my Mom & sister who have told me my pics arrive with them as HUGE and they have to scroll to see bits of them.
I have downloaded photoscape, and tried to resize a few, but do not think it works....

So back to work.
I got the pens all mucked !!!!!!!!!!!!!Boy is it stinky mucky poopy muck!!!!!!!!

Now have to get a load of gravel to put in.

DH is working on the new coop so maybe I will get a few pics..
And forms off the foundation, drain pipes buried, and gravel back filled all around!!!!!!!!

photoscape works well, but if you upload to photo bucket and then let them have access to the album, it works well that way too.

Not a lot done today, minus laundry and moving the chicken tractor and glueing and clamping one weird piece of the chicken coop which refuses to stay put otherwise. Was sick all last night, very slowed down today, and not up to single-handed construction.

Was going to go co the hole-saw work, which I can do sitting down, but need to charge batteries first. By which time it will be time to cook dinner, et'c and so on. Looks like maybe no Elma tomorrow, unless things come together magically well tonight and tomorrow morning. Experience is not encouraging.

We bought a sawzall! Well, a DeWalt. DH is going to make wide steps up the little slope that goes to the coop so we don't slip and fall on our butts when the slope is covered in ice.

We were going to go to HD to get one of the deals CL posted, but DH insisted it be from an American company and it be something sold in North Bend so we had only 2 choices. The DeWalt at Chinook won by $40 over the Sawzall at Ace. Ours is corded because DH hates having batteries run out on him.

While at Ace, I saw they are having Spaghetti feed at the Moose Lodge next week for one of their checkers who was diagnosed with cancer in December. I know what we will be having for dinner on the 11th. Hard to accept that someone so energetic could be taken down so quickly. I miss chatting gardening with her at the check-out.

That little banty rooseter pulled nearly every leaf off the basil and Thai pepper plants I potted up last night.

Hi, I'm kind of new -- both to this forum and raising chickens. This decade I live near Bremerton (aka "the coast", aka Kitsap Peninsula, aka West Sound). Previous decades I hung my hat in Grant County and Okanogan County and King County. So Hello from me to all of you!

I have just 2 chickens, a skiddish Ameraucana named Ginger that's laying pretty blue eggs for us, and a black pullet named Pearl (as in Black Pearl) that we're waiting to see whether she's a Black Sex Link (which is what I thought I was getting) or a Black Australorp. Either way she's very sweet and should start laying in the next couple months I think.

As a beginner, I'm learning where my mistakes and boo boos have been so far. One of the first was to buy two very big bags of feed! 80 pounds of layer crumble and 80 pounds of scratch!

I had no idea it was going to be so much!!!! I have a couple of friends I thought I might be able to split them with, but they're full up. Rats! Good thing I got them for a good price! Are any of you familiar with Drive Thur Feed on Key Peninsula? Quite a place. Very nice people. And for anyone who hasn't been there, YES it's totally Drive Thru. Totally!! Hey, if you're in the neighborhood and need some feed -- let's make a deal!

I'm working on getting the girls to follow me back to their pen, but they're just so darned excited about getting out that they have absolutely no interest in anything I have to offer as a bribe to go back in. Our yard is too big to go chasing them around, and I have too many tender seedlings to just let them run amuck by themselves, so it's an ongoing adventure for a while. Wish me luck!

I've been waiting 30 years to get chickens, and now I'm loving it!

thanks, I would, but, i usually just post them on facebook or my blog. Its only my sister that is really interested in updated pics. No one else I care to send pics too spends much time on the computer.

I know, I know. I just keep expanding!

Six is good...that will allow me an "extra" coop for culls, bachelors roosters, ect. For now.........

Well, Heather agreed with her DH when she said she only had 50 some chicks in the incubator. She told my DH she had around 150....

She didn't fib to her DH....she just agreed with what he had said. something around 50.

wonder how many coops her DH thinks she is getting? Heahter: Can you hide the coops from DH? If so tell me how so I can sneak some into my back yard.

In all seriousness: I will PM you later...got to go and take care of the crew and get ready for work.

LOL Well....considering it might be a really long building when all said & done...I doubt it. He doesn't really know about any coops, yet. I mentioned in passing one day that I found someone to build me some "bantam'' coops. He kind of blew it off.

However, he will be gone for a few times here & there. So maybe if it's set up while he's gone and he comes home to them...he won't notice?

Actually, the bigger problem will be getting an area level and ready for the newest coops...something that my DH usually does with the backhoe...hmmmm.....

Its the weekend!!! I have a life again!

So I had a brilliant idea to call the local fishing people and they have directed me in the right direction on who to contact that might be interested in feathers for tying flies.

So sunday I have a few people coming out to look at my chickens and see what they want. I am happy because my roosters just finished moulting and i want their feathers sold before they fight and mess it up. From what I have read hen feathers will do as well. so i think i have found a new way to have my chickens make me money.

Thinking as a gift for my bf, going fishing tomorrow then go to the super oval to watch racing. June 7th is our 3rd year dating annaversery... don't know if he has remembered it yet.... this year i'm not.
Next weekend i will have chicks hatching.
Yesterday i sold 5 chicks at the Leavenworth Farmers market, and sold out of eggs.

I see Black cayuga eggs and dewlap toulouse eggs for sale on ebay that i am thinking of swipping tonight. Does anyone raise some so i could source locally? Some people i met at the market last night might be interested in giving me their black indian runners. I so want wine bottle duckies!!!
